BAGHDAD Qasem Soleimani, Iranian Major general of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and his Deputy General, have been killed in an airstrike at the Baghdad International airport, Iraqi media says. An engineer was also among those killed.
An unknown number of rockets struck at least two vehicles belonging to the Popular Mobilization Forces that were transporting the high ranking officials.
Initial reports say seven people were confirmed killed but the number could rise as the vehicles and bodies were badly charred.

I disagree. That was essentially the 1st joint services mission deployed since ~ 7 years earlier in Vietnam. It was hastily planned under the leadership of the newly created Delta Force. As I recall, the helicopter pilots were from different branches of the armed services, meaning they had different methods of operation. The result was that some of those choppers flew through sand storms while other flew around them. The mission was aborted by DF because the minimum number of helicopters needed for success failed to land at Desert 1. And tragically, 1 chopper crashed into the C-130 while they were lifting off to retreat. The U.S. armed forces are much, much more integrated now, 40 years later. JEC caught the blame for it, but the reality was the U.S. military was in a state of draw-down after Vietnam ('74-'76, before JEC) and simply not up to the task.
Posted 3 video’s of the strike (with sound) post #401
As the strike hit, chaos at the airport ground level, walk thru soon after....(warning! bodies in vehicle and on ground in flames but blurred in 3rd video)
No man in the world was directly involved in more conflicts, in more countries, over a longer period than Qassem Soleimani. His death is a HUGE loss for an Iranian regime that’s actively fighting 3 cold/proxy wars-with America, Israel, and Saudi Arabia-that could all turn hot

This was a tremendous action of Pres.Trump in removing one of the biggest purveyors of terrorism on the planet....Almost any President, Kennedy, Reagan, Bush, would have done the same....Iran is learning VERY QUICKLY that President Trump is not Barack Obama.......
The US just killed the Middle East Hitler and the Demo-rats and our media are upset,... clearly the Demorats are now giving aid and comfort to Iran, our enemy and would rather murdering terroists live!
I had just arrived to the USA as am immigrant kid and even then thought the US giving up the Panama Canal was un-American.
Suleimani, a flamboyant former construction worker and bodybuilder with snowy white hair, a dapper beard, and arching salt-and-pepper eyebrows, gained notice during the eight-year war with Iraq, in the nineteen eighties. He rose through the Revolutionary Guard to become head of the Quds Forcean Iranian unit of commandos comparable to the U.S. seals, Delta Force, and Rangers combinedin 1998.
Required reading from November 2018 by Elijah J Magnier:
Contrary to what some experts seem to believe, Soleimani is not the most powerful General in Iran. Soleimanis direct superior officer is Brigadier General Mohammad Ali Jafari. Soleimani is part of the IRGC and doesnt have forces under his command in Iran. He implements policy as dictated to him and is a part of his countrys security apparatus, with a team of assistants helping him deal with the allies of Iran, mainly non-state actors.
There are many military personalities and other security bodies more important than Soleimani in the Islamic Republic of Iran. Nevertheless, because he is the head of the al-Quds brigade, in charge of financing, training and organising allies outside Iran, Soleimani has achieved renown. Many years after the US invasion of Iraq, few people, even among Irans allies, had met Soleimani or heard his name. But Iraqis find it difficult to be discreet and they have therefore spread abroad his name, movement and encounters. In fact, the wider relationship with various Iraqi groups started after the battle of Najaf in 2004.
They don't have to Finger Point. President Trump was on Worldwide TV and told the World it was Our pleasure to Flush the turds of the 3rd World.

My, doesn’t that make him sound attractive
100%
Your memory of what actually happened is roughly the same as mine. You could easily be right that lack of update and recent reorganization were major causes. Also we had not had the experience with desert warfare that we had a few years later. My son’s 82nd AB unit at Ft. Bragg was “on mission” in August of 1991. They were in Saudi Arabia 6 or 8 days later. He was with a unit assigned to work using light Sheridan air dropped tanks. I have a number of photos showing him up on some ugly, ugly old tanks. Finally, a beautiful one shortly before the land invasion that winter of his brand new Sheridan tank, for which the military had failed to provide camouflage paint. My husband and I made a rush run to Home Depot to pick up pints and quarts of paint in tan, brown, beige, and gray shades. His best buddy was sending him a package the next day to include the paint.
Chain of command has all but collapsed for many of these militant groups after the death of #QassemSoleimani, so there is little (if any) accountability.

Thanx. A lot of unsubstantiated reports of activity in Iraq & Syria.

That is a Russian video, this one is better https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fiis7xH6dk8 and I can hear changes in his voice compared to a few months a go. He seems very fragile.
Someone needs to help him on his way - maybe stick their foot out as he’s going down a step
The author Robin Wright belongs to the style of Western bleeding-heart liberals who will always justify the other side....For years she has been telling the world that radical Islam is only about legitimate grievances and that the real culprits are the Western powers, especially the United States.....She has tried to act as an apologist for the mullahs of Iran and the Hezbollah gang in Lebanon.....She and other librals would be on the side of King Kong in its destruction of New York if only because the beast was plucked out of its habitat by capitalists loking for oil!
What she does not understand is that you cannot go around preaching murder in the name of religion without producing the suicide terrorists we witness all over the world......Islam’s a socio-cultural that ‘breeds’ terrorism... The truth is that radical Islam inevitably leads to terrorism. And no cause, no matter how noble, could justify terrorism.
