EXCLUSIVE: Trump hosts Amish in historic Oval Office visit
The Washington Times ^ | Sunday, December 22, 2019 | S.A. Miller

Posted on 12/30/2019 8:34:25 PM PST by Zhang Fei

President Trump began the holiday break by hosting an Amish delegation in the Oval Office, the first time members of the reclusive community have received that honor.

They might be an odd pairing — the brash and extravagant billionaire president and the humble Amish — but they enjoy a kinship in their Christian faith and work ethic, the Amish visitors told The Washington Times.

“He is a common man just like me and everybody else — very common, very friendly. He called us friends when we walked in there,” said Levi Miller, 56, an Amish farmer from Ohio. “It gets people excited that we have somebody in there who is not afraid to talk about Jesus Christ.”

Mr. Miller was among four Amish businessmen from Ohio who sat down for an exclusive interview with The Times following their Oval Office visit Friday, where they also met Vice President Mike Pence, acting Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney and other top White House officials.

The Amish men described themselves as strong supporters of Mr. Trump and each denounced the House Democrats’ impeachment of the president as a waste of taxpayer money.

“We read the newspaper and it is just ‘impeachment this’ and ‘impeachment that.’ It’s a lot of hogwash,” said Ben Hostetler, 51, a woodworker. “What they are blaming Trump for is what they did themselves.”

The Amish businessmen credit Mr. Trump with fostering a robust economy, protecting religious freedom and adhering to conservative values.

Mr. Miller said the Amish experience the good economic times that Mr. Trump has ushered in, and many will back him in 2020.

“What we see happening at home. Everybody is upbeat. The stock market, everything is up — the economy, the jobs are available,” he said.

But what was an Amish doing on a Greyhound. If he’s got to break his tradition, why do it on the most miserable, uncomfortable, dirty means of mass transit available? A horse and buggy might be slow, but horse manure is like perfume by comparison.

I read the entire article. Gosh maybe the United States May survive after all. I was so fortunate to eat at an Amish market most Saturday’s in Annapolis before moving to Florida. They’d drive down from Pennsylvania and man, can they cook. Yummy!!!

"I take it these aren’t the Amish that beat up Jesse Smollet, right?"

____________

LOL ....... those weren't even the ones who attacked Mitch McConnell and his wife.

They're all over the place.

Yes they can cook. I use to take my parents to one of their restaurants 50 miles from where they lived. Best food you could imagine; if you like old-fashioned home cooked meals. The restaurant was in Linton, IN. I think it was called Stolls. I just checked and they no longer exist. Sad!

My favorite Amish tale: at the Pittsburgh Zoo, the Amish often come to spend a day.

One day, my wife and I were leaving. There were these two girls, maybe 16 or 17 leaving also.

I thought they were Amish because of the blue cotton dresses and little bonnets they wore.

Anyway, as soon as they got outside the zoo gate, one of the girls whipped out a pack of Marlboros. They both lit up and inhaled the smoke like they had been doing it for years.

Surprised me.

Me, too. Imagine apologizing for “sounding a little rude” for the slightest criticism of the vastly out of control, suffocating, obese and increasingly despotic government.

The Pennsylvania Dutch sell shoo-fly pie all around the Lancaster area. It always sounded promising, but yuck.

Haha, funny you should mention that. My mother-in-law was a crowd-gazer during the filming of that movie. She stepped a little bit out of the crowd to get a good pic of Harrison Ford as he was “driving” by in the buggy during filming - Harrison Ford hollered “LADY!!” at her because she ruined the scene.

I’ve been around the Amish people most of my life - they are allowed by their traditions to utilize some modern conveniences but not own them or keep them in their homes. I’ve seen many Amish that have cell phones but do not keep them in their homes, they will put them in a shed or such and retrieve it when they go about their day of work.

If you’ve ever been around Amish people, you know that bathing is an occasional occurrence with them.

He called us friends when we walked in there,” said Levi Miller, 56, an Amish farmer from Ohio. “It gets people excited that we have somebody in there who is not afraid to talk about Jesus Christ.”

AMEN!

The Rev. Franklin Graham said that Donald Trump gave his heart to Jesus Christ during the 95th birthday celebration of his father in 2013, the Rev. Billy Graham. I believe that to be true.

Billy Graham’s 95th Birthday Party

The press, the Democrats, and Marxists - all wanted us to simply ignore the outright hatred that Barry Hussein Obama had for Christians.

Even during a Christian prayer breakfast, Obama could not resist to smear Christianity as tool of torture, slavery, and illegal conquest.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e8LOi4rjH8A

Obama constantly made speeches about the "Holy Koran", but in the same speeches he mocked the Bible, and took passages of Scripture out of context. Obama HATED and HATES Jesus Christ.

But, we were never supposed to notice.
