McConnell On Dismissal Of Trump Impeachment Articles: ‘We’ll Have To Have A Trial’

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said Wednesday that the Senate cannot dismiss the articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump, meaning there will be a trial.

“I don’t think there’s any question that we have to take up the matter. The rules of impeachment are very clear, we’ll have to have a trial. My own view is that we should give people the opportunity to put the case on,” McConnell told reporters after being asked about dismissing the articles of impeachment.

Most Republican senators refused to rule out voting to remove Trump from office in an impeachment trial over the Ukraine scandal when contacted by the Daily Caller at the end of October.

With 51 votes and the ‘Reid Rule,’” Johnston continued, “McConnell could first block the filibuster on any motion to proceed and then move to dismiss any article of impeachment with a simple majority.”

Which means there would be no trial — the political equivalent of a mistrial to throw into the mix already including the two-plus years of the Mueller hunt and the ongoing inquiry of U.S. Attorney John Durham into “Russiagate” as the country approaches the 2020 election.

This process — the refusal by the Senate to approve a “Motion to Proceed” — is how the Senate should flush articles of impeachment from the record as it stands today. Invite the House to begin again if it wants to, but using due process if it does, and backed by a bipartisan majority.

I sincerely, and in every way, hope I am wrong, but actually, at the end of the day, I have no reason to believe Roberts is likely to do anything, to create neutral boundaries in a Trump Senate hearing.

Additionally, as there are already, there are many Republican senators, who will absolutely join the demons to attack the president, and act to hold up or block his defense in Senate hearings.

Exactly like we see happening right NOW, Roberts and Mitch, will like other senators, not want to be seen or portrayed in the LEFT WING mass media and press, to be offering Trump any neutrality.

That is a bet you are sure to lose if you are implying that the Senate will impeach President Trump. That is not the job of the Senate. It is the House that impeaches and the Senate who holds a trial to see if the president should be removed from office.

Without President Trump Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell will lose his position in 2020 as the Republican Senators who voted for conviction go down in flaming defeat. The carnage will not be limited to just those Republican Senators who voted to convict.

Just imagine Sanders and Warren forced to sit there day after day as the Republican run Senate vindicate the President and they cannot do anything for their campaigns.
