The announcement last Thursday that popular veteran Fox News reporter Catherine Herridge would be leaving the channel the following day – and moving to a new job as Senior Investigative Correspondent at CBS News later this month – took both viewers and media watchers by complete surprise. On the heels of the declaration three weeks earlier by prominent Fox News Channel news host Shepard Smith during his afternoon program that he would be leaving the channel that same day, the news about Herridge occasioned an immediate wealth of wild speculation by pundits weighing in with their opinions about what her departure means for the future of Fox News.
For example, an article at a popular conservative site, Wayne Dupree dot com (currently ranked #1,430 of all U.S. Web sites by Alexa), offered the headline “Need More Proof Fox News is Circling The Drain? Award-Winning Journalist Catherine Herridge is Leaving:”
As Fox News circles the liberal drain, Herridge was one of the reasons to keep watching, because she embodied the “fair and balanced” mantra that Fox abandoned years ago.
This kind of fact-challenged spin typifies a popular online meme about Fox News that has been circulating among conservatives during the past two years – the assertion that the channel is taking a major “turn to the left.” Before revisiting the validity of that claim, it is useful to review some actual facts, and also to consider a modicum of not unreasonable speculation, about Catherine Herridge’s departure from Fox News.

I doubt if Americans will go for a Conservative propaganda equivalent of Leftist CNN.
Right Leaning/Conservative radio programs dominate the airwaves. I can’t remember the bill the Dem’s were pushing that would give the FCC the ability to control radio in a way that they could shut down some shows and put up other ones, in the name of fairness, of course. Because the shows from the ‘Left’ needed the help, while Limbaugh, et al, needed no help and dominated radio.
What makes any media outlet, print/tv/radio, go to one side or the other are the editorial pages/opinion programs. Am I wrong? And is there anything really wrong with that? I don’t think so. Someone wants to hear some Liberal talk about cow farts, let them. That’s what the Free Press and free markets are for.
Issue with MSM, etc is that everything is too the Left. Not only are there opinion programs insanely Left, even what passes for their reporting is insanely to the Left. They don’t report the facts. They give their version of the event. Kind of like the President making some statement and then some talking head on a show saying....What the President REALLY meant by that statement is this, that or the other thing. And the others on the program just nod their heads in affirmation.
Fox has dominated the airwaves for years, because of its ‘lean to the right’. Even though they marketed the station as....We Report, You Decide. But their opinion programs, pretty much, all went Right.
Rush Limbaugh has the largest radio audience on the planet. And for how long. How can you say that the country won’t go for a Conservative Agenda, when this man has dominated radio for decades? And he’s not the only one. Look at the way some stations do their programming. Conservative host’s all day and into the night, with Conservative fill-ins. If the country didn’t want that, those stations wouldn’t be broadcasting them.
Since Fox is turning pretty dramatically to the Left, a “Conservative” alternative is just what this country wants/needs.
While I’m not a die hard watcher or listener of any of them, OANN seems more like an old time media outlet where they give the facts to let you know what happened in, say, Chicago without segueing into a lecture on gun control.....10 people were shot last night in Chicago, bringing the murder rate to 375. No suspects....
If someone were to come up with something to challenge Fox and lean a bit to the Right, if not more, then they’ll be winning.

Their regular “news” solemnly parrots the Democrats. Only when Tucker, Hannity, Laura, the judge or Gutfeld are on does that change.
She works for CBS. No, it is not a leap. A leap would be assuming CBS would allow her to report honestly.
It seems to me that you do not watch Fox News. If you did, you would know that Fox has not turned to the left.
To the contrary, it has turned to President Trump.
On the subject of Rush, his good friend and conservative stalwart Rodger Ailes was the creator and motive force that founded Fox News. He created the phrase “Fair and Balanced” to gain the moderate viewers necessary to attract advertisers. Fox News is or was wildly successful from the beginning. It now dominates cable news. The spin off Fox Business is also a success and in my view presents a fairly conservative presentation.
Although there are contributors that are pretty left wing, they are overshadowed by the conservative majority. In addition to being conservative, there is a another faction. Plain old ordinary Republicans are on the list to be attracted.
That message will be delivered by Newt, Carl Rove, and guess who? Paul Ryan.
Conservative purists who whine and moan about Fox News are too young to remember that when Ailes’ Fox News came about, folks here considered it a gift from God. And I mean a genuine gift from God. It was like crossing a desert and finding an oasis of clear cool water.
It is now fashionable, even stylish for some Freepers to bash Fox News. One wonders if the motivation is real or to be able to gain self esteem by showing off or fear criticism at church. All that purist falderal is really not helping the conservative effort.

Those are some really Pro-President Trump folks there. I’m very much aware what Roger Ailes did at Fox. Well, he got run off for some unsubstantiated sexual harassment stuff against one of the females. And the moment he left, the network started circling the drain. Now he’s dead.
And now they hire, perhaps, one of the most prominent ANTI-TRUMP individuals on the planet. The guy who absolutely refused to help the President. The guy that, some would say, intentionally allowed the Dem’s to take back the House. The guy that married into powerful, politically connected Dem family. None other than Paul Ryan.
And it’s not already Left. WTF-ever.

That is exactly my thought. Now, cbs will control what she will never be able to report. But the bonus is, she will be delivering the incriminating evidence on democrat graft to the conduit to the democrat party, who will pass it along so the “loose ends” can be dealt with and the exposures can be eliminated.
The headline seemed odd that way to me too. It seems obvious for competitive reasons that one of the lower rated 6 ‘left’ leaning newsrooms would move ‘right’ because there is no competition on that side of the aisle. But then again who knows what these newsrooms are really thinking and doing?
