Link?
The article states at the beginning McConnell spoke with NPR Friday (today)
I think the Senate can vote to dismiss (51) at any time. In 1999 Sheets Byrd brought a dismissal motion 2 weeks after the trial started. Was voted down by 7.
I had to post a correction on two counts. It was Lott not Dole, and they did hold an impeachment trial.
I didn’t remember Specter’s actions either.

After Bubba Clinton was impeached his approval rating jumped 10 points.
I guess people want the Dems and the media to just be able to carry on all next year that “Donald Trump was never acquitted of the impeachment charges” should they actually go through with it.
Will the Senate call Slow Joe and Crack Hunter as witnesses?
they have to take it up.
Can vote to dismiss w 51
Again let me restate below since Freepers do not read posted articles.....
AP slips this in at the bottom? This item has been corrected to show that McConnell spoke to NPR months ago, not Friday.
it is worth keeping in mind that something like 20 Senate Republicans are up in 2020 and the impeachment vote is just before Primary filling time

That might be but Republicans being the deceitful backstabbers they are who know what they’ll do?
What I cited comes from CRS (Congressional Research Service). It is an over-view of the process. I’ve had the paper for years now.
I would have to agree with you.
For the record, I did post a correction of my comments on two counts.
TexasGator was spot on with his post.

Mist of those wouldn’t dare convict. Their lives would be ruined.
Realistically you have 3-4.
Here in AZ McSally would not dream if doing that. Nor Shelby. I can go on.
One thing Mitch could do is not have the trial until after reelection and then toss it. Or hold a one hour trial just to satisfy the constitution.
I am getting more PISSED every day...

Right. On every issue the Senate stalls and delays and then says “whew! Time for vacation, I mean adjournment.”
As: We will reduce those out of sight cable price gouging problems in this session.
Or: The average taxpayer will finally get solid tax cut relief in the coming bill.
And the ever popular: You hate Obamacare and we hear you. Here is our alternative that really works and restores choice and free enterprise competition incentives.
Keep waiting.
But NOW the Senate is supposed to get wide awake and rush into breakneck speed to destroy President Trump?
Fuhhhhggggetttaboutit. Or go into foxholes.
Actually, the Chief Justice is to preside as a judge; and I believe as such he could grant a motion for dismissal based upon the likely fact the bill of impeachment will not have charged anything that amounts to high crimes and misdemeanors.
He should not act as if he were a ventriloquist's dummy as Rehnquist did during Clinton's "trial."
ML/NJ
Burr, Lamar, Murkowski, maybe Collins and Shelby. Woefully short.
Yes.
My post to you was off base on several counts.

Your honesty speaks very well of you. Not many people are willing to admit mistakes.
Regards.
“What I cited comes from CRS “
Which are the TRIAL rules.
I remember the minute after Clintons impeachment all the democrats stood behind Clinton in support. The very same people are impeaching our president. So hypocritical.
