Opinion: President Trump’s China policy is working, but you’d never know that from media reports
The Los Angeles Times ^ | September 20, 2019 | Greg Autry

On the morning after the 2016 presidential election, CNBC interviewed Peter Navarro, who had been an economic adviser to the Trump campaign and would soon join the administration to advise the president on trade and manufacturing policy. Navarro outlined President Trump’s economic plans: cutting taxes, reducing regulation, cutting energy costs and reforming trade. He predicted strong growth and a Dow moving past 25,000 based on these pro-growth policies.

The Trump administration has delivered on every one of those things, but you’d never know that from the mainstream media. Today, it’s hard to turn on the financial news, open a business paper or browse an investment website without seeing some doomsayer predicting the impending collapse of the U.S. economy and equity markets because of the latest tariff or presidential tweet. When the markets invariably resume their upward trends the next day, it’s crickets.

With each drop, tariffs are blamed, and sometimes, the blame is more specifically laid at the feet of Navarro, who has been a chief architect of the president’s trade policies. As the economy hummed along, with historically low unemployment, the Wall Street Journal recently suggested we might see a “Navarro recession.”

We’ve also heard the constant refrain that the tariff burden is borne by American consumers. In fact, while economists differ on the effects of the tariffs, there is considerable evidence that they are having the desired effect. Modeling by European economists Benedikt Zoller-Rydzek and Gabriel Felbermayr concluded that, although U.S. consumer prices for affected Chinese products will rise by about 4.5%, Chinese firms will pay approximately 75% of the tariff burden. And as of the end of August, the treasury had collected more than $25 billion in tariffs from China.

China seemingly capitulating more quickly than I thought cost me some profits on gold options but it’s worth it in the name of the country :)

Regarding Xi’s capitulation,an epidemic of swine flu has killed nearly half of China’s hogs, the major source of protein in Chinese diets. Chairman Xi needs our pork and soybeans to keep the people from becoming restive.

Why do the people at Newsweak and others, never recommend that CHINA eat crickets and people?

I mean, we have 300 million people, China and India over a billion each.

Who is really more of a stress upon global food supply?

Well, yes, the author even said that when Trump proves right again you can hear all those crickets.

Xi is going to Russia for these items. Unfortunately Russia’s swine problem is even bigger than China’s and the only place to purchase the quantity of soybeans to feed China comes from the US. We could very well subsidize our farmers until this ends as well as seek other markets to sell in.

A SCMP commenter reported several months ago that all the butcher ready hogs in the world is not capable of replacing all the hogs China has put down or is expected to kill bez of the swine flu. Also Brazil is experiencing dryer than normal weather and their next soy crop will be affected accordingly.

Which brings me back to my freq suggestion to PDJT.

Creation of SOYPEC
Soybean Producing Exporting Cartel
US and Brazil produce 70% of the world’s soybeans
This is leverage
Include Argentina and India and that’s 84% of the world’s soy production.
This is leverage of EPIC proportion.
And PDJT does like leverage.

If a cartel of this size is put together, you would have little soy price fluctuations, which is good for farmers.
Crop damage or failure in one country would drive prices higher, but bumper crops would allow the cartel to buffer and maintain stable prices.

“WOW getting all of them (back) to work would be a great economic achievement!!”

With record low unemployment for blacks/Hispanics/women we have to be close to 1.15 billion people in the workforce, using Bidenmath.

Big feather in the cap for our Very Stable Genius President!
