President Trump on Sunday ordered U.S. flags to half-staff as "mark of solemn respect" for the victims of weekend mass shootings in El Paso, Texas and Dayton, Ohio.
"Our Nation mourns with those whose loved ones were murdered in the tragic shootings in El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio, and we share in the pain and suffering of all those who were injured in these two senseless attacks," Trump said in a proclamation released by the White House.
"We condemn these hateful and cowardly acts," he added. "Through our grief, America stands united with the people of El Paso and Dayton.
"May God be with the victims of these two horrific crimes and bring aid and comfort to their families and friends."
Flags will be flown at half-staff at federal facilities until sunset on Thursday.
At least 20 people were killed on Saturday at a Walmart in El Paso. Hours later, nine people died when a gunman opened fire at a bar in Dayton.

..and American flag patches on LOCAL POLICE uniforms. Are they setting us up to accept a NATIONAL POLICE FORCE?
Between the Federal. Govt. ordering flags down for every bad thing that happens, and Cuomo ordering them down in NY State for every “feel good” reason he can come up with, I suggest we just leave our flags at half staff until advised to do otherwise.
It’s getting ridiculous.

Boy Scouts have had flags on their uniforms forever. That’s not really upsetting to me.
150k or thereabouts everyday in this world for every cause except abortion. That number I don’t know worldwide but its around 3k in the US. On the bright side 300+k are born each day.
Yeah we could also start other gradations of flag flying. 3/4 staff for milder events and 1/4 for really bad stuff. /sarc.
Boy Scouts having the American flag patch doesn’t bother me. They are a national organization but local police depts aren’t.

I can see that, but historical context. Probably been doing it for ages, and they do it just for being proud of being part of US. Not so much to be federalize.
I realize the intent is show respect for our flag. I was rationalizing the appropriateness of the Boy Scouts having an American flag on their uniforms whereas local police departments are out of line and should promote themselves as just that; LOCAL or STATE and not national or federal!
When is the flag not at half mast these days? It’s perpetual?
The flag should be lowered every time 30 people are murdered in Baltimore... It’s time to draw attention to the REAL murder problem we have in the United States...
