The meth seemed to appear out of thin air.
Benjamin Bowling couldn't figure it out. He had been clean ever since his release from prison on a DUI conviction, but now a Jackson County, Florida, sheriff's deputy was accusing him of possessing a minuscule amount of methamphetamine....
Now, nearly two years after Bowling lost custody of the daughter he had just gotten back, after he was convicted of felony meth possession, he knows exactly how it got there. Wester, state investigators now say, planted it himself - and Bowling was far from the only victim.

On the Quasi legal side of the issue... There was a cop in Maryland who was running plates looking for CCW out of state drivers and he would pull them, and do an inspection of the vehicle and if they had a weapon in there that wasn’t properly stored they would go to jail.
” And I have never had a speeding, parking, red light, etc. ticket, never been arrested. I have seen cops in action and they are rude and immature. Sure we would call one if we needed one. But their behavior is horrible, hateful, immature, loud, bossy, rude...”
Your statement is a gross generalization. This kind of thinking is weak. The vast majority of officers are not rude, hateful or horrible. They need to be strong dealing with people because people need to respect the law and the officer wants to go home to his family at night.
Yeah.
The really bad part is when a cop is guilty as sin, and everyone on his department knows it, and they dirty themselves closing ranks to protect the miscreant.
The evil cops need to be removed if for no other reason than to protect the good cops. Never mind all the people in jail because this guy planted evidence on the innocent.
Every time a "good" cop breaks his or her sacred trust to protect their fellow citizens from criminals, even those in uniform, it erodes the trust in the system and puts us one step closer to anarchy.
Anarchy will be hard on everybody, but cops and their families will get the absolute worst of the brunt of it.
They do that in Ca too...
But I have never met a nice cop, sorry but it is true.
Ive met plenty of good cops. Also a few bad ones. In one instance that got nasty, a good cop saved me from a bad cop (short version: a city cop tried to set me up because I beat him at pool, state cop busted him on the spot).
Most cops are good people. The bad ones do a lot of harm and just plain suck.
Yup.
The vast majority of cops I have encountered have been kind, professional, lawful. Two have been rotten, in those cases I was either a victim, or hassled for political reasons. I probably have encountered dozens of cops through the decades. They get a bum rap much of the time in this country, from what I see.
Anyone with an internet connection can have evidence of horrible crimes planted on their computer.
In some ways it’s even easier than dropping a baggie on the floor of your car.
And just about as easy to defend against...
Our first line of defense is to make the penalties for planting evidence and bearing false witness at least the same as for the crime the evidence points to.
Our second is to change the culture to one that shuns evidence planters in the law enforcement community.
They were.
Most still are.
“You should get out more.”
In some jurisdictions like Baltimore, Los Angeles, Portland, etc. your choices when you go out are cops who are indifferent, tyrannical, plain bad, evil, corrupt, lazy, criminal, vicious, ignorant, bullying, belligerent, and murderous.
In such places staying out of sight is a wise policy.
Oh yeah, in the olden time when Daniel falsely accused was thrown in to the lions' den but wasn't eaten by the lions the king found out he was innocent, false accusers were thrown in the lions' den with their families.
I’ve had run-ins with some cops who were humongous flaming jerks. No cop is going to search my car with my permission. They will have to handcuff me and do it against my will.
Used to live in Lakeland, Florida and I will not go into detail here but unless something changed dramatically the Lakeland Police Department is corrupt, clowns, jerks in general, and a holes who should not be wearing a uniform. Do a search I think they’ve had a number of scandals in recent years harassing innocent women for sexual purposes. Frankly I’m surprised a few of these cops haven’t been vigilante-d in a dark alley when they’re not on duty.
I know if it had been my wife or daughter I’d want a little more personal justice than the so called legal system provides.
What do those cities have to do with Texas?
“Anarchy will be hard on everybody”
I disagree.
Modern policing didn’t exist until around the 1850’s and prior to that the world was actually a lot safer. Miscreants would get rounded up by a posses, tried, and hung.
Or the neighborhood would form a vigilance committee to deal with the criminals.
Modern police protect criminals from law abiding citizens and that’s the serious truth here. That’s why police (not so much sheriff departments) get so outraged at citizens who can and do defend themselves.
If police departments were to close up tomorrow then I imagine the criminal population would drop to negligible numbers by Labor Day.
One of the talk shows I listen to has a prison psychologist as a frequent guest.
In the course of her career she would do psyche evals on police department applicants to weed out the sadists, the ones with control and rage issues, the ones with narcissistic personalities, she was horrified to find that many of the people she utterly failed were hired anyway. Many, not just a few MANY.
Dad and granddad were on the force, he's a friend of the mayor, the local alderman owes him a favor, etc., etc., etc...
Sometimes the person who should never ever ever be trusted with authority over any of his fellows humans would simply apply elsewhere where the screening wasn't as diligent.
These guys and gals need to be weeded out.
I say the same things about everyone I’ve ever met from Texas.
Might be an interesting experiment tot try...
“What do those cities have to do with Texas?”
If you’re only concerned about Texas then get off this topic about Florida.
My personal beef with them is their concept of 'brotherhood' and even the good ones won't dare speak out against the bad ones, they actually defend them.
Just my personal experience and I don't understand it. I would think they might want to get rid of the few that cause them the most problems with public perception.
If policing were to end tomorrow then the first criminals likely to get shot around Wyoming will be the trespassers and rustlers from the BLM and National Park Service.
