I'm normally a fan of Occam's razor, but I question its applicability here.
Epstein is a billionaire, he didn't get that way by the simplest method. I suspect all his activity had multiple layers of redundant safeguards.
He was caught once and got off near scot free. He didn't quit his activity, but he was likely way more careful.
A billionaire has no need of blackmail money. So I discount that theory. However he wanted to maintain his safety. I suspect his taping etc was a defensive tactic in case of rats.

Private island or not, Little St. James is under US jurisdiction as part of the US Virgin Islands (I'd imagine these pedos got a giggle out of that), and has never been raided to my knowledge. This to me is telling as to just whose intelligence might have a hand in this.
Why not? It is done all the time. Epstein need not have been a single individual who was doing it. He could easily have been an agent of a government or governments.
Killing him would not solve a target's problem.
Using blackmail to extract information is one of the most common tools for an intelligence agency.
