I probably should mention this: I’ve been burned by more than one “breaking news” story here, posted it on my favorite liberal site, only to end up with egg on my face. It won’t happen again. What I do is prepare to post, then research before posting. If there is zero information out there to support the “OMG” angle, I don’t do it. And the more time that goes by (especially these days), the more likely it’s a big nothing burger.

I remember 9/11. I was on FR and it was EVERYWHERE at the same time. That one was big and I referred all my friends to the minute by minute coverage here at FR. I was following this thread very closely and avoided any “snarky” posts until I’d vetted this story pretty thoroughly (for the time alloted) and realized there was nothing there, except for the speculation I was seeing in a lot of posts.

When it’s real, it just has a natural progression. When it’s nothing, it’s like trying to prime a pump that won’t prime. You get a trickle and nothing more.

This never got past a trickle - and I went into “let’s have some fun with this” mode.

Problem is, for a lot of people, they were just seeing the thread, going to the end, and seeing some guy saying there was a Russian nuclear sub on fire in Lake Superior. That should not be. I was wrong.

That is a perfect example of the original "fake news". The left would float a fake story that was very negative to themselves. Sites from the right would get all excited and run with it. Then when the facts came out the left would use them to discredit the the sites that ran with the original fake story. It was a planned method of attack.

I agree with you about internet news coverage. However, I did see this on Fox Business and CNN at about 11:00 this morning. So there was a story...Not sure where it is going, but it is unusual for VP en route to a event to return. And word “emergency” was used in same sentence.

It is weird to me that there is seemingly total silence on it now...Not sure what it means.

May never know, but I am keeping computer nearby and TV on.
