When Democrats heard last week that Robert Mueller would testify before the House judiciary and oversight committees on July 17, they were as giddy as a 72-year-old Jerry Nadler waiting to question Hope Hicks. But unless committee Republicans botch the hearing—something entirely possible—the left’s strategy of placing Mueller center stage in their continued attempts to underdo the results of the 2016 presidential election will backfire bigly.
Why? For the simple reason that Mueller’s 400-plus page report presented the worst the special counsel could muster against Trump, so any new revelations will play to the president’s advantage.
So, what should Republicans do to make the most of Mueller’s appearance, both politically and from an oversight perspective? Two things: (1) Leave the political grandstanding to the Democrats and (2) Ask the right questions.

The problem with stressing how much the Mueller investigation cost is that he turned a profit when you net out the fines he collected from the Trump staffers and associates that were convicted.
“Were there Russians in Russia, when you took the samples of high grade U.S. Uranium to Russia?”
That seems to be a requisite for becoming the FBI director.
” Do professors hand out a list of questions that are going to be on their exams?”
No, they just let the students use the internet to get the answers.
“You’ve already wasted exorbitant amount of America’s time and money; why don’t you just go away?”
The fact that these elements were excluded from the report shows that Mueller was not interested in getting at the truth-but was only interested in getting Trump.
The GOP should have no trouble casting doubt on the integrity of the entire Special Counsel Office.

Yes. I am not one, because I have not seen heretofore that testifying particularly endangers any of the conspirators.
None of them have been SWATted. None of them is in solitary.
They can dissemble or prevaricate with virtual if not literal impunity.

I agree that the Republicans should be strategic in getting out the impressions by focusing in on the heart of the matter. They should refrain from scolding Mueller or going after extraneous stuff (e.g. Uranium One or anything not related to the Mueller report). The questions and responses and challenges to the responses should tell the story.
Also there should be coordination with the Republican team so that a coordinated strategy can be implemented. (I am skeptical about this part happening.)
While I often love what he says, Louie Gomert should not participate. While we might enjoy it, his flame throwing will hurt the case to people that can be influenced. Also he is most likely to bring up the extraneous material.
