I know for a fact that morning he was offered a choice between resigning and being fired after he had shown a lot of work problems.
If he was an affirmative action hire and was soon going to be looking for work, it is a safe bet that he knew he’d probably never work again. I don’t know what he could offer a potential employer except grievances...
