I defer to my colleagues who study civilian/military relations, but I find this worrisome - the military must be loyal to civilian control and the Constitution, not part of a presidential personality cult, said one little lefty peckerneck professor.

Leadership encouraged and allowed this as it’s so nice to have a CINC that they and those under them can respect...temp patches and used as a morale device....seen a number of “informal accessories” used this way over 39 years in and around the military.
