Boris Johnson has thrown down the gauntlet to his Conservative leadership rivals by insisting the UK must leave the EU by the end of October with or without a deal, as he set out a hardline Brexit stance just hours after Theresa May announced her resignation.
Johnson is the favourite among Conservative members to take over as prime minister by the last week of July, but he will face competition from as many as 20 rivals.

danm straight, just drop the hammer!
October? What happened to NOW? Brexit was done 3 years ago and these Limeys still can’t make up their minds.
Yah, that’s why Boris sounds like Trump...
.@Nigel_Farage: Lets deliver Brexit. We have a new date now of October 31. We must absolutely leave on that date if we are to be in the eyes of the rest of the world a credible democratic nation that obeys the rule of the law #FarageCable https://t.co/QR2mh8ki45 pic.twitter.com/fuDJ220wSI— The Telegraph (@Telegraph) May 22, 2019
October 31st is the earliest date that the UK can leave without EU approval at this point. If the new Prime Minister (whether its Johnson or somebody else) can get an agreement with Parliament and then with the EU before then, they can certainly leave earlier, but all Johnson is saying here is that whether that happens or not, it would be his intention as Prime Minister to leave on 31st October and he doesn’t need any approval or permission to make that happen - it’s already agreed that that is the date unless an earlier or later one is decided on later.
Rory Stewart can do it.
I hope that means he’s prepared to tell Juncker and the EU to stick it up their ass.

So is this going to be more same-old-same-old?
And what’s Nigel doing?
+1
The EU vote results are released on Sunday, so more of a clue will be available then.
As for the Clown car...please select the colour and fuel type of your choice. Speed limit yet to be determined.
Rory Stewart looks like an undertaker who entered the profession for all the wrong reasons.
If the NYT says that about Boris Johnson, imagine what they would say about Nigel Farage.
"..Boris Johnson has criticised the US president Barack Obama and suggested his attitude to Britain might be based on his part-Kenyan heritage and ancestral dislike of the British empire...."

There was a series of back and forths, mostly centering around Obongo's support for UK to remain in the EU.
"...Boris Johnson has accused US President Barack Obama of "hypocrisy" over his support for the UK remaining in the EU. The London mayor, who backs EU exit, told the BBC the Americans "wouldn't dream of sharing [their] sovereignty" as the UK had done. The US president is expected to repeat his support for Britain's EU membership when he visits the UK next week..."
Michael Gove then.
I wonder who is the Trump of the UK Conservative Party? Any English FReepers know?
I’m not at all the fan of Boris that everyone else is. He was anti-Trump and made a big stink when somebody in NYC thought he WAS Trump.
He’s a buffoon and his stint as London’s mayor was an embarrassment. Why they wanted a mayoralty in that town is beyond me after 1000 years of NOT having one. I guess they hate freedom.
