Ocasio-Cortez has previously been criticized for transparent attempts at cultivating her image as a poor girl from the Bronx. Newsmax host John Cardillo called her out last year for misleading the American people about her childhood. He tweeted this picture of her childhood home in Yorktown Heights, saying it’s “a far cry from the Bronx hood upbringing she’s selling”: The New York Democrat, never one to shy away from a Twitter feud, fired back, explaining how her mother scrubbed toilets so they could afford to live in that modest home, which apparently didn’t have a garbage disposal. “I grew up seeing how the zip code one is born in determines much of their opportunity,” she said in a tweeted response. “Your attempt to strip me of my family, my story, my home, and my identity is exemplary of how scared you are of the power of all four of those things.” As for her latest Instagram stream, the 29-year-old congresswoman couldn’t resist tossing a little jab across the aisle: “All you people telling me to reach in and grab whatever’s there are just Republicans trying to test my health insurance,” she said. “I’m onto you.”

Garbage disposals were illegal in NYC until 1997, and are still not common, especially in older buildings.
I think she is "ignorant" on this one rather than "stupid".

I am going to call her an outright liar if I have the address of her mother in Eustis, FL. Zillow says it has a garbage disposal. Her mother’s name is listed as associated with 55 pine St.

Ok, I stand corrected. The 40 years I lived in NYC, I never saw a garbage disposal. I don’t want people to think I’m defending this idiot - just that New Yorkers don’t have much experience with this. I hate them, personally.
