CLARK Tom Kean Jr. wants to make sure theres no doubt about his philosophy.
Im a Tom Kean Republican, he said Tuesday night to an overflow crowd jammed into the local American Legion hall. Kean Jr., was announcing his candidacy for the 7th District congressional seat now held by Democrat Tom Malinowski.
The reference was to his father, Tom Kean Sr., who served two terms as governor in the 1980s. The term, Tom Kean Republican, is not merely the type of throwaway line one often hears at political gatherings.
Over the years in New Jersey politics, it has come to mean two things a moderate Republican as opposed to an uncompromising right winger and an official who sees the opposition as just that, not an enemy to be vanquished at all costs.
The elder Kean took to the podium and essentially made that point.

Bush League Republican
New Jersey must not have enough illegal aliens.
So he’s a rino squish?
He’s running in a district where Trump lost to Clinton in 2016 ... so this is probably the best you’re going to get from a GOP candidate.
Leonard Lance bent over backwards for the Democrat kooks. Holding Townhall style meetings that were raucous with heckling. Donald Trump’s summer white house is just north of this district and he never once asked Trump to campaign with him. Hence, Lance lost.
Kean is just fluffing his feathers.
Support him if it’s the best you can get. The next rat wave will sweep him under.
Who?
I’m glad daddy put in a good word for him. /s
Actually, Tom Kean, Jr. is quite a bit more conservative than his dad. Smart though to draw comparisons to his dad. Malinowski is now my Congressman and a complete jackoff. Kean should win this district back by about 4 points and then hold it for quite some time.
Kean Jr. got a 50% rating from the ACU for the 2017 session. Places him right on the left-wing RINO line.
Leonard Lance got a 52% and 36% Conservative rating in 2017 and 2018, which was pretty bad for a Republican.
yes
it is jersey
Illinois and Massachusetts say hold muh beer.
“and an official who sees the opposition as just that, not an enemy to be vanquished at all costs.
While they seek to do that very thing. What a dolt.
He wants everything the Democrats want, but a little bit less.
Chris Christie had all the right enemies; while he wasn’t perfect, he was a pro-life, anti-tax Republican in a liberal state.
Im a Tom Kean Republican, he said Tuesday night
Yeah well I am an American, PERIOD! You do what is right for this Country ad its people or I don
t vote for you no matter what!
he’s a RINO and will lose big time.
he comes from a blue-blood family that promotes abortion, big government, taxes, etc. His father created many programs that bankrupted and regulated the state, some that come to mind: mandating a minimum salary for teachers that sent budgets skyrocketing due to parity and current labor contracts.
2 million school employees went on and started the gravy train, state mandating school testing another buracracy crated, for decades the CAT tests were issued, California Achievement Tests, and they were fine, an outside testing firm and millions of students graduated and knew basic skills.
Kean also mandated garbage incinerators in every county, 21 in all. This is another boondoggle that cost the taxpayers billions, finally, the Scotus ruled that states can do what is cheaper with their garbage, in NJ’s case, the landfills in PA was the cheapest.
And don’t you think his father didn’t cover up info. when he chaired the 911 Commission. Bush had thousands of people to choose, so who did he choose, his blue blood friends, Kean for the 911 Commission and Whitless who chaired the EPA and said that no toxins were released in 911. What a joke.
Actually, Tom Kean, Jr. is quite a bit more conservative >>
LOL, tell me another joke. FYI, tom sr. was NOT conservative at all, so Jr. can’t be a “bit more” at all.
Just another RINO blue blood, like Whitless and Kean, and Rodney and Bush.
Here’s another scheme and scam related to Tom Kean, Sr.
the very devious and sneaky, Lease Purchase Agreements, which allowed local school boards and many other government entities to bypass the voters, the constituents they swore and pledge to serve and to use this lease-purchase scheme to sell govt. bonds to build schools, etc. w/o voter approval.
Another, RINO, blue-blood scheme to screw the taxpayer and help out connected friends...
I bet there isn’t a person in NJ who remembers the Tom Kean lease-purchase scheme.
Oh, and Kean Sr. left an almost $billion deficit for McSleazy..with the largest state-employee carpool in history!!!
