Oh, yeah. Syria’s raring for another try, and has no thoughts whatever over how it lost the Golan in the first place. Leading Syria on about a possible repatriation of the Golan escalates tension. Shortsighted.
As you know, the first time Israel took the Golan, there were no direct talks, but the intermediaries assured Israel that they had an understanding, that the Syrians would reciprocate something if they got the Golan back. Instead, they got it back and spent the next ten years shelling northern Israel. That ended in 1967.
