Alex Trebek made a heartbreaking announcement Wednesday when the longtime “Jeopardy!” host announced that he has been diagnosed with stage IV pancreatic cancer. Alex Trebek made a heartbreaking announcement Wednesday when the longtime “Jeopardy!” host announced that he has been diagnosed with stage IV pancreatic cancer. “I have some news to share with all of you and it’s in keeping with my longtime policy of being open and transparent with our Jeopardy! fan base,” Trebek, 78, said in a video message recorded on the iconic set.

“I also wanted to prevent you from reading or hearing some overblown or inaccurate reports regarding my health. So therefore, I wanted to be the one to pass along this information.” The Canadian game show host, who has led almost 8,000 episodes of “Jeopardy,” said his prognosis is “normally...not very encouraging” but insisted that he’s “going to fight this.”

“...prognosis is “normally...not very encouraging”...

It’s 95% a death sentence, depending upon how far it’s metastasized. I had severe/acute Pancreatitis, lost 131-lbs, and died 2x in the hospital. They brought me back both times, and had my 15th ERCP/Endoscopy today at PSU-Hershey. Prognosis is excellent now, after 2yrs of hell.

The cancer patients don’t fare nearly as well. Mortality rate at Stage 4 is 95+%.

Best wishes, Alex.

Watch his video statement at the Link.

The most mature statement imaginable under these circumstances.

Truly one of the finest people on television - ever! The definition of a gentleman.

Hers was caught very early, small & Stage 1.

In stage 1 and some forms of stage 2 pancreatic cancer, the cancer is contained to the pancreas — an organ in the abdomen that helps regulate blood sugar and digestion.

In other forms of stage 2 and stage 3 pancreatic cancer, the cancer has spread to nearby sites like lymph nodes or blood vessels.

By stage 4 — the most severe — the cancer has spread to distant sites of the body like the liver, lungs, or bones.

Feb. 13, 2009 — U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg was released from New York’s Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center today following her pancreatic cancer surgery earlier this month.

Ginsburg, 75, had her spleen and part of her pancreas removed on Feb. 5 after a routine CAT scan showed a lesion, measuring about 1 centimeter across, in the center of her pancreas.

That lesion turned out to be benign, but Ginsburg’s surgeon — Murray Brennan, MD, FACS — found a smaller, previously unidentified tumor which was malignant, according to a statement released today by the Supreme Court.

Ginsburg’s pancreatic cancer was found early, in what doctors call stage I, and it hasn’t spread, the Supreme Court states.

Holy cow! I hope this doesn’t come across as insulting, but did you drink a lot? People keep telling me that those who drink regularly, even beers on weekend are more at risk for pancreatitis and pancreatic cancer which is freakin me out because I do drink a lot.

And now we move to Final Jeopardy. Your answer is “trust in Jesus.” and your wager is...everything! That is correct! We’ve got a winner!

My advice to Alex is to host a grand finale type of Jeopardy episode, and then retire and make plans.

Because pancreatic cancer is a rabid female dog.

I hope he hand-picks his successor, or maybe he already has. Surely they won’t let Jeopardy end with him.
But there seems to be a certain formula for game show hosts these days, and Alex would not qualify.

For some reason Kelsey Grammer was the first person I thought of. It surely would be a high paying and secure job for the lucky person chosen.

This is the best resource on pancreatic cancer:
https://www.pancan.org/facing-pancreatic-cancer/about-pancreatic-cancer/risk-factors/

Smoking is a verified risk factor, while heavy drinking appears to be correlated in some studies, but not yet proven as causal.

My prayers for Alex. I always thought he was a good skin. Having been around the health care field(and still working in it) sadly pancreatic cancer is pretty much a death sentence.
