Cuban exile Antonio "Tony" Bascaro is preparing to leave federal prison, where he has spent most of his adult life serving the nations longest-known stretch for dealing marijuana. But the 84-year-old fears trading one cell for another.
Thats because Bascaro, a pilot who trained for the 1961 Bay of Pigs invasion, is not a U.S. citizen and risks being detained and ejected from the country upon release. Bascaro says if he's returned to Cuba, he could spend the rest of his life as a political prisoner.
My life will be in jeopardy, if deported, Bascaro told the Washington Examiner from a federal prison in Miami. But by experience, I'm ready [for] anything that may happen at my release.

Give him a non-paying job at Guantanamo.
He needs to be pardoned and get his American citizenship.
He did his time and then some.
Trump needs to take a look at this.
Part of a scheme to import half a million pounds of pot?
“He needs to be pardoned and get his American citizenship.”

TRUMP.45! may get wind of this!
??????????????????????????

Bascaro, who now walks with a cane, was arrested in 1980 for helping import more than a half-million pounds of pot, using his aviation skills to scout landing sites along Florida’s coast. He was sentenced to 60 years in prison but will get out after about 40 for good behavior.

I expect the stoner freeps will be along shortly to say people spend many years in prison for having an ounce of weed.
This guy deserves what he got and then some. Breaking the law is not a good idea sometimes.
Really. Actual Nazi war criminals have been stripped of their citizenship but died in their own beds on US soil because no other country would take them.
If this guy’s biggest offense was dealing some weed we definitely should not hand him back to Cuba. The only reason Cuba would take him would be to extract their revenge.
Forty years for pot smuggling
He should be released and sue for reparations
Thats ridiculous
I thought the Black Tuna guys were the longest serving
Id never heard of this guy
Average freighter load back then carried 60-150,000 pounds of Colombian weed
He wouldn’t cooperate. Thus no deal. His buddy said he tried to get Antonio to cooperate.
What happened to that deal if you served with the US military that you got US citizenship in return?
He was never in the us military
I don't think he needs a pardon. The Attorney General has the authority not to seek his removal. At this point its just an administrative proceeding. The AG can issue him humanitarian parole.
As for US citizenship that's never going to happen he would need a presidential pardon and Trump would never do it.
The stuff was closer to hemp than today’s pot.
Just for personal use.
Sounds like a candidate for a pardon to me.
Just let him go. The demonRATs committed a far bigger crime against the Cuban people than this poor mope. They broke their promise to the resistance and confined them to a communist prison for life. Let this guy go and put THEM in prison.
I vote for that.
