Chicago police on Thursday say they "have no evidence" to support reports they are investigating whether actor Jussie Smollett fabricated the story about his alleged assault in Chicago last month. Chicago police spokesman said reports the attack was a hoax are "unconfirmed by case detectives" following multiple reports by Chicago news media.
"Media reports anout the Empire incident being a hoax are unconfirmed by case detectives. Supt Eddie Johnson has contacted @ABC7Chicago to state on the record that we have no evidence to support their reporting and their supposed CPD sources are uninformed and inaccurate," police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi tweeted Thursday night.

My guess would be that they’re not ready to hold a press conference yet. I believe what’s been reported is true. Might some in CPD be putting info out there anonymously to force them to hold the hoaxers accountable? It’s harder to make it go away now.

Yeah, sounds like some in the PD are letting the truth out, but the brass are not yet ready, possibly for fear of “community” outrage if no one is charged.
Chicago PD can’t solve 90% of its hundreds of annual murders, but they can smoke out a homosexual and two Nigerians staging a hoax “attack.” Strange.

Hoping for a plea bargain perhaps? something to quietly drop the serious charges?
That’s exactly what’s going on. I have a relative on a police force and the police are entirely under the thumb of the politicians. The police try to do the best they can to get at the truth but the politicians have an outcome they want and if the truth doesn’t line up with it, to heck with the truth.
