Are Neandertals pre-Flood people?

Published: 2 February 2019 (GMT+10)

Markus B. asks:

I am in contact with someone who has read your article Neanderthal genome like ours. He does not agree with what you have written in your article, and thinks instead that Neanderthal man lived before the Flood and completely died out in the Flood (he also thinks Homo erectus, Homo heidelbergensis and Homo denisova died out in the flood). He argues that the genome of the Neanderthal man and modern man mixed already before the flood, and that this would explain the findings.

And if they can't believe the veracity of the Bible, they can't believe in God.

It’s certainly possible to believe in God without believing in the Bible.

Did you know that some Jews believe that the story of Jesus is God’s answer to Job.

So you believe that Satan wants God to test Job’s faith, because according to Satan, Job’s piety can be attributed only to the fact that Job’s been blessed with prosperity.
You then also believe that Satan challenged God. And, God grants Satan permission to test Job’s righteousness...just like that? God and Satan are in cahoots, like two chums. Job is nothing more than Perseus. You believe that?

I’m an Atheist...kind-of..more Buddhist I guess. Truth be told, it does not matter to me. I spend more time reading about Quantum Physics, and Economic Theory than anything else.

"You honestly believe in the stories of Adam and Eve, and Noah?"

Venom potency varies from snake to snake, even among individuals from the same local population. But that given, one snake is pretty much like another... :)

It is. But not for everybody. Some have turned the collection of books into the literal "word" (logos) of God, and proceeded accordingly. It's their authority, and without it they're lost. Not that I care. I've known some very good and decent Christians who think that way, and I wouldn't lift a finger to disabuse them of their conceit. However, I can't say the same for them, vis-a-vis me.

It also doesn’t account for orientals such as Chinese, Japanese, South-east Asians?

If the flood got rid of all the Homo’s (he also thinks Homo erectus, Homo heidelbergensis and Homo denisova died out in the flood). Why did it miss the Homo sexuals?

There’s something between a “local flood” and a flood encompassing the entire world. Local floods happen all the time. On the other hand, there has been nothing similar to the regional flood that followed the collapse of the earthen berms and ice holding back the giant lakes formed by the receding glaciers of the last ice age. This flood covered huge swaths of land in North America and in the Eurasian land mass. Hence, folk histories of various peoples of the northern hemisphere talk about this flood. In contrast, the folk histories of various peoples of the tropical zone do not.

With regard to the Noahic covenant (between God and man and all living creatures, to not again destroy the world by flood), traditional Jews and Christians have no problem with this involving the animals with him, if not themselves all living creatures, as stand-ins for all living creatures. Of course we know from the Book of Revelation that instead of destroying the world a second time by a flood, God will destroy it - in the Battle of Armageddon - by fire.

With regard to my reading of Genesis 9, I doubt that the words of modern English correspond 1 to 1 to those of the original texts of the Old Testament.
