President Trump said Tuesday that he told White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders to stop giving daily press briefings due to dishonest and hostile reporting.
"The reason Sarah Sanders does not go to the 'podium' much anymore is that the press covers her so rudely & inaccurately, in particular certain members of the press," Trump tweeted. "I told her not to bother, the word gets out anyway! Most will never cover us fairly & hence, the term, Fake News!"
The tweet followed White House spokesman Hogan Gidley's Tuesday morning appearance on Fox News, during which Gidley avoided giving a direct answer on why the briefings gradually tapered off last year.
Gidley offered an explanation similar to one Sanders herself has offered when asked: that Trump's frequent social media posts and interactions with reporters make briefings unnecessary.
But Gidley also suggested that briefings may resume, despite there being none yet in 2019, aside from an early January presidential address from the briefing room podium, without questions.
"It's not that they ever stopped but sometimes we see a need to come to the podium to communicate things and sometimes we don't," Gidley said during the interview. "A lot of times when we don't come to the podium it is because the president addressed American people himself."
"She's gonna come back when she finds a reason to do that," Gidley said. "Sarah Sanders will absolutely be back to the podium talking to the press and delivering the message to the American people."
Agreed. This denies drama queens like Acosta a stage for their pathetic little melodramas.
I love how he backs her up.
She is very good and if he didn’t she wouldn’t have lasted as long as she has.
Thank you, President Trump. There was no reason to subject Sarah to leftist activists masquerading as “journalists”. The arguing, rudeness, lack of respect was just horrible and they twisted a good bit of what she said into fake news. If the WH does hold ‘go to the podium’ events, they should eliminate the cameras. Most of the ‘actors’ like Acosta, behave the way they do for face time & to create a kerfluffle they can use to gin up something up for the evening propaganda.
Pretty much every time Trump leaves the WH to go anywhere, he talks to the “activists” on his way out. He’s the most accessible President EVER. The podium stuff is unnecessary the majority of the time.
Dear Diary...
Some stupid libtard judge said that Trump was not allowed to ban one misbehaving journalist, so he banned them all. Sweet
The level of respect and decorum at our White House just increased dramatically.
Dear Diary...My life has been crushed by Orange Man. Federal Judges will not help. Goodbye cruel world....(flush).
Now kick them off WH grounds.
Good!! Now turn the room into a cigar / brandy room for those who may enjoy that once in awhile.
CNN will cry to a judge that this is unfair and order the daily briefing to the press corp.
Sarah should deliver WH briefings from the podium but not take questions.
Jim Acosta did cause this. It’s like punishing everyone in military basic training for the infraction of one person.
Have fast food served to the White House tours.
What became evident is the groupthink where most of the “questions” were nothing but attempted gotcha moments by a bunch of fifth graders.
Anyone watching would be embarrassed that this is the US press.
CNN can pound salt, they have combined with the rest of the elite media to eliminate journalistic standards and convert the news distribution business into a full fledged Left wing activist industry dispensing fake news and hate filled anti-Trump lies. Everyone recognizes this now.
Briefing - "a meeting for giving information or instructions."
No need for questions....they delude or misrepresent answers given anyway.
Good decision! The press is no longer the press.. they are gossip mongers...stop all press briefing and do it another way.. it serves them right!!
Rather than stopping these briefings altogether, I would invite only bloggers and independents, like Sundance, Cernovich, Paul Joseph Watson, Stefan Molyneux, Dave at the X22 report, Dave Janda, Sharyl Atkisson, and Greg Hunter.
Shut downs are fun!
