Virtual reality technology made Palmer Luckey a multi-millionaire. Now, the Oculus co-founder's new company is using artificial intelligence technology to create a high-tech surveillance system that could be used to build a "virtual wall" on the southern US border.
In fact, Anduril Industries, the defense technology start-up Luckey founded in 2017, has already tested its border control tech in Texas and San Diego. In those tests, Anduril's surveillance technology helped US border agents catch dozens of people who were trying to cross the border into the US without authorization, US Customs and Border Protection told Wired in June 2018...
Here's how Luckey, now 26, describes his latest company's AI-powered system, which is called Lattice, in an October 2018 interview with CNBC's Andrew Ross Sorkin: "What Lattice is is an AI-powered sensor fusion platform that can take data from thousands of sensors and integrate it into a single cohesive, real-time 3-D model that has everything in it tagged using machine learning — so, all the people, all the vehicles, all the drones and the aircraft over very large areas."
After just a 10-week period of testing Lattice on a Texas ranch on the southern US border in 2018, Anduril's technology helped border agents catch 55 people trying to cross into the US without authorization, US Customs and Border Protection told Wired last year.
Those border agents also seized 982 pounds of marijuana in those arrests (though, Wired notes that 39 of the 55 individuals apprehended were not carrying drugs).

You still need border patrol to stop them and then they are just released into the USA.
But someone gets very rich setting up this AI pipe dream.
Oh and none of this I have seen ads for is true AI.
If it’s a virtual laser wall similar to the perimeter defense system used in the movie “Congo”, I might be interested.
Um, I wish someone would tell these people that the point is not to catch people who have entered our country illegally, but to prevent them from entering our country at all.
Whenever you hear the term “virtual wall,” just substitute in your mind the word “imaginary” for “virtual.”

I can just hear the Border Patrol addressing a caravan...
“Amigos, listen up! The front row has been issued a virtual reality headset. Put it on now. Look around. Do you see that thirty-foot concrete wall? Unless you can scale that, go home. Thank you for your time. Hand the VR headset to the person behind you and go home. Gracias and have a good day.”
This would be a nice add to the real wall.
W had cameras set up on the border, but Obama pulled them down.
This is very nice...until the next Globalist Liberal POTUS decides to flip the off switch on it.
We need a physical wall, period. There is simply no substitute, and we cannot compromise on it.

I’m sticking with the one that doesnt require batteries.....and is an actual barrier.
Virtual walls stop virtually no one.
All those cameras did was to watch people enter the country illegally.
Real walls/fences stop that.
There have been numerous studies on using this type technology or other types of “visual” technologies to “secure” the border.
Quick question: how many people who have home video camera systems leave their doors unlocked or open or simple remove their doors? The answer is NONE! Why, because video technology is only a very, VERY small part of the answer.
A perfect example of how being able to see (or even touch) from the air is only a part of the solution: the Navy and the Air Force can bomb the living hell out of any parcel of land they want, but it is going to take the presence of the Army and/or Marines to SECURE/MAINTAIN that parcel!
We need a PHYSICAL BARRIER to discourage rampant border jumping in areas of rough terrain or heavy traffic, etc...
Then we use these barriers to also channel the MAJORITY of border jumpers into areas that are easier to control and more occupied by Border Patrol agents.
Lastly, those lesser few that do get over/under/around these barriers can be more easily viewed and tracked by air/video - even “herded” towards an area occupied by Border Patrol agents.
Physical walls are merely tools. They must be manned, operated, defended or they are useless. Adding sensors of various types can be a huge force multiplier for the defenders.
I’m not opposed, but the thing about the Wall is that it’s relatively permanent. We can bet that future administrations will not be interested in border security.
