I’m clearly a woman. I have had men and women say, “yes sir” to me, It’s just an automatic response for clerks and they may get it wrong sometimes.
When I was in the Navy, we called all officers “sir”, at first, because you’re respecting the rank, and thus, male.
But, I noticed after the first year or so, we started saying “sir or ma’am”, depending on who we were talking.
Just thought of that, honestly.

I worked for a company where the art director and his wife did their best to look like each other. Page boy hair cuts, jeans and t-shirts, and they were both about the same height. It was weird.
Years later I found out that the art director and the owner of the company (!) would go out on the town together in drag. Both were married to women, but they had this desire to pull off being taken for women.
Weird stuff.
I guess it’s......how may I address you, ‘sir, madam, ms, mrs? Do trannys have a preference? To top that off....I’ve heard there are many more genders. We’re screwed.
