Prayer Warriors have seen this but we need everyone to offer prayers for Richie.
First a little history .... The last week of November, Richie received several vaccines which included the flu vaccine.
On December 2nd, he was hospitalized with paralysis of his arms and legs. He was put on a respirator and the outlook was bleak. I posted a note on FB asking for prayers from family and friends.
Richie is the grandson of a cousin who is more like a little brother than a cousin.

Father, we ask for MERCY for this dear child, and we promise to give You all the glory. You are able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we can think or ask, and we ask for healing in the name of Your son Jesus, by whose stripes we are healed. Please Father, give hope, encouragement, and above all, a miracle, in Jesus’ name. Polio is not stronger than the name of Jesus, paralysis is not stronger than the name of Jesus. Sickness is not stronger than the name of Jesus, so in Jesus’ name, we ask that Richie rise up and walk. AMEN
I am so sorry. Poor sweet child. May God the great healer, have mercy and give him a miraculous recovery.
My thought and prayers are strongly with you and Richie in this time of great need. Let him know that he has a giant family loving and praying on him.
Hope this makes sense but this is what Grandpa told me.
Richie has Acute Flaccid Myelitis. It is similar to polio but not polio. Basically no treatment for it but supportive care. They said it may be a virus but don’t know for sure. It is very rare.
Because it damages the spinal cord it also damages the heart by sometimes causing the heart rate to drop to a rate that can be fatal. Local doctors and doctors from Stanford are all in agreement to put in a pacemaker but say it does not always work.
Brian is at odds about putting his son through all of this but Grandpa thinks Brian is in shock and is very angry. Brian and Shannon will need to make this decision. I have mixed emotions, I say if there is a chance it will help, do it BUT what if he doesn’t survive the surgery?
I have been crying and praying for two hours.
Father, please hold Richie in Your healing arms and restore him to perfect health. Amen

Heavenly Father, You are the Lord God Almighty, The Great I AM, Little Richie and his family need Your Touch. Please, in the Name of Jesus, heal his little body. . .let the world see answered prayer. We pray for the doctors to use the correct procedures. Stop anything that will interfere with Your healing. May You be Glorified and may this be a time of testimony to the unsaved for those who come in contact with Little Richie and his family. In the Name of Jesus, Amen.
I say prayer only, if that does not cure Ritchie, then God has other plans for little Ritchie.

Will they be getting additional opinions? I know this is a very difficult time, for all of them.
Lord, please lift up little Richie and heal the gray matter in his spinal cord...make it new and vital, again.

Oh dear...we continue to pray for the little guy! Where is the hospital? Are there any better experts out of state that he could see?
Oh my goodness! I’m so sorry to learn this is what has knocked Richie for a loop. It’s been showing up around the country and they don’t know where it came from.
I recently saw a piece on TV about a young girl who was struck with it and she’s getting some movement back now. Praying hard that this will be the case for Richie soon.
Jesus Christ our Lord. We pray for healing for Thy ailing servant Richie.

Praying hard for you, little one.
Richie is at Valley Children’s Hospital in Fresno. It is the premier hospital in our area. They were the first hospital in the area that were able to preform open heart surgeries.
The local doctors have conferred with doctors from University of Stanford Medical Center. They were in agreement regarding the pace maker.
So sorry for all your sorrow and that of his mommy and daddy. He is the cutest kid, that picture at the first page shows a very special little boy. I still suspect the vaccines started the trouble. When I was a kid we got very few vaccines.

Maybe they can call Kennedy Krieger in Baltimore, if they haven’t already...

There are other news stories out there. One is a news story about a 4mo baby girl. That one mentions IVIG treatments for the AFM (but maybe Richie already receives them?)
Maybe parents of children with AFM connect and share info with each other...
