Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's 'Green New Deal' is more dangerous than you think
Washington Examiner ^ | 3 Jan 2019 | Justin Haskins

Rep.-elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., hasn’t officially started her first term in office, but she’s already pushing a massive, far-left proposal that would fundamentally transform much of the economy and push the country closer than ever to socialism.

For several weeks, you might have heard Ocasio-Cortez reference the creation of a “Green New Deal,” but until recently, few people knew what would be included in the plan. In a draft resolution to form a select committee in the House that would help develop legislation to put her plan in action, Ocasio-Cortez finally outlined numerous proposals that she says should be part of future Green New Deal legislation. Taken together, the many ideas included in Ocasio-Cortez’s Green New Deal would be the most radical policy shift in modern U.S. history, dramatically increasing the size and power of government and running up the national debt by trillions of dollars.

According to Ocasio-Cortez, the Green New Deal, which has been endorsed by Sens. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., Cory Booker, D-N.J., Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., and at least 40 House Democrats, would eliminate nearly all fossil fuels from the electric grid and force everyone in the country to buy from power companies selling only renewable energy.

more dangerous than you think

This is utter hyperbole. lot of us are of the belief that these folks should be nuked and until then they should keep talking to convince more and more folks that the right solution is a sheet of green glass extending 20 miles in radius from any point where they are standing.

She does have a position of power now

Well, only because this deranged voice would in normal circumstances be brought to heel on the floor of the house by the opposition. Unfortunately, these days, the "opposition" is the deservedly out of power party of Ryan, McCain, Flake and fellow travelers. A potted plant would get more votes than Occasional Kotex, but our beloved GOPeers can't rise to the level of intelligence or attractiveness of a potted plant.

Members of Congress, especially the House, have always proposed these radical ideas. They never go anywhere.

I mean they're still hammering on reparations to correct the slavery issue and have been since John Conyers was in diapers. Never going anywhere.

I don't know how much "power" you thinks she has, but she thinks she got a lot more than she actually has.

She's a newbie, back-bencher and will find this politics stuff is not just winning with some brain-dead millennials in the Bronx. She'll have to wait her turn to get anything done.

And it won't be big-sweeping changes to the government her first time around.

Off the grid will not be allowed. Any excess power generated will be redistributed to the proletariat and taxed as income.

Last paragraph of the article:Doubtful we'll lose the battle. Even if the House manages to pass this deal, it will be rejected by the Senate. If, by some miracle, it manages to pass the Senate, it will be vetoed by President Trump.

With part of the government shutdown and the country drowning in debt, you'd think the RATS could come up with something more reasonable on which to spend the taxpayers dollars.

and she is not alone in her radical thinking.

Not at all. Her views are those shared by many millions of liberal Millennials. They don't drive. They're not buying homes. They owe thousands in student loans and work at Starbucks. Tax the rich? They're all for it. $8/gallon gas? They don't care.

People who say AOC is an idiot and her ideas will never go anywhere ought to think again. She may be but one sole congresswoman but she's getting a lot of press. She's probably the 3rd most talked about politician in the country, right behind Nancy Pelosi and President Trump.

So where are the Republicans countering this? Calling this idea complete garbage?

They're on board with this too. Hence the silence.

“...” but until recently, few people knew what would be included in the plan.”

Trust me, Occasional Cortex herself has no idea about any specifics for any such plan. This idiot just speaks in Utopian platitudes while having zero understanding about the time, cost, effort and R&D for her magical zero-emmissions fantasy.

The Republicans will meet them halfway in the name of compromise. Then the Democrats will get all of what they REALLY wanted in the first place.
