5 Republicans who could challenge Trump in 2020
The Week ^ | December 6, 2019 | Matthew Walther

Remember when half of American white males over the age of 40 declared themselves for the Republican presidential nomination in 2016? There were so many candidates that they couldn't fit them all on two packed debate stages. One guy stayed in after receiving a grand total of 12 votes in the Iowa caucuses; in New Hampshire, Jim Gilmore's showing improved to 133, an unprecedented 1,000 percent increase. Reader: He didn't withdraw for another six days.

I’ve got news for you: The greatest president in modern American history would have been impeached from office by around February 2017 without his party standing behind him, which include some pretty lousy and unreliable people but people who fear the GOP rank and file to some degree.

That’s not to say all of them are worth retaining. We’re better off with Flake gone, but you’re on crystal meth if you think Romney is in the same league as him or Kasich. If your cutoff is anyone no less reliable than Jim Inhofe, you might as well surrender now because the left’s takeover will be completed overnight. Thankfully, the base isn’t dumb enough to adopt your loser strategy.

2020 hinges more on the existence, or non existence, of the wall.

The wall was lost last month.

The House appropriates, and we lost the House. So, no money for the wall.

They are still in negotiation for the Homeland Security appropriation funding bill. They just passed another two week extension.

Flake will beat both Trump and Kasich. President in waiting Flake.

Flake wants to exude wisdom on CNN or MSNBC for big bucks. He doesn't really want to be President. It's too much work!

King Kong will make short work of both Flake and Kasich.

It is up to Trump, he can veto and that part of the federal gov’t goes unfunded.

You're suggesting the Republicans have supported and stood behind Trump since he was elected? Sure they are. And now ya tell me you'll vote for the likes of insider political hacks such as Romney? And it seems you think millions of Trump supporters would fall in line and vote for a Romney if the Republicans fail to support Trump? You might want to rethink that.

If Trump isn't supported fully by the Republican party through 2020-2024, I'll be voting 3rd party or Independent. It's up to them.

You do whatever the hell you want to do, buddy. If you think the commies will care about your protest votes as you’re getting frog marched off for wrongthink or wrongspeak for the SJW infraction du jour, you’re even more clueless than you appear.

It wouldn’t be a protest vote. I simply do not vote for a candidate simply because they have an R next to their name. This is not complex. The only reason I supported Republicans this time was directly due to outsider Trump. The Republican party was dead on the floor without Trump. No question.

Let me ask you, who do ya think would be president right now if not for Trump?

Since you evaded the question I’ll answer it for ya. If not for Trump, it would President Hillary Clinton through 2024. Trump blows all the posers off the stage and what did the the Republican party do? They’ve attempted to undermine and compromise Trump’s border wall.

Let me ask you another question. Since the Republican party never had any intention whatsoever of protecting/securing our borders in the decades leading up to the Trump era, are you surprised?

Her bio says she was born in the US, not that it matters to me. I’d relish voting against her, same as Willard.

LOL...You call someone a crank based on zip when it's you who've clearly evaded several legitimate pertinent questions. Not a real clever strategy.☺ But feel free to head for the tall grass. No problem.

They weren’t pertinent but moronic questions. Trump has nothing to do with the availability of another Trump-like candidate in 2024.

Cruz will never be president. Not going to happen regardless of timing.

You're a crank. They weren’t pertinent but moronic questions.

Lets examine the questions you've clearly evaded here while suggesting I'm a crank.

1. You're suggesting the Republicans have supported and stood behind Trump since he was elected?

2. And it seems you think millions of Trump supporters would fall in line and vote for a Romney if the Republicans fail to support Trump?

3. Let me ask you, who do ya think would be president right now if not for Trump?

4. The Republicans have attempted to undermine and compromise Trump’s border wall. Since the Republican party never had any intention whatsoever of protecting/securing our borders in the decades leading up to the Trump era, are you surprised?

Btw, I have no idea what you're talking about with this gibberish.
