Vice Admiral Scott Stearney, the Navy’s top officer overseeing forces in the Middle East, died Saturday in what defense officials now call an “apparent suicide," CBS News reports .

Stearney, who was the commander of the military branch’s Fifth Fleet in Bahrain, was found dead in his residence, the Navy confirmed earlier on Saturday. Paul Schlise, the deputy commander of Fifth Fleet, will assume command in his place.

The Naval Criminal Investigative Service is investigating Stearney's death in addition to the Bahraini Ministry of Interior.

However, Chief of Naval Operations Adm. John Richardson said in a statement that "no foul play is suspected" in his death.

He also called his death “devastating news” for Stearney’s family, the Fifth Fleet team “and for the entire Navy.”

“Scott Stearney was a decorated naval warrior," Richardson continued. "He was a devoted husband and father, and he was a good friend to all of us."

Stearney joined the Navy in 1982 and served for 36 years.

The admiral oversaw thousands of U.S. sailors and other forces as commander of the Navy's Fifth Fleet and served previously as the operations director of U.S. Central Command, as well as chief of staff for joint task forces in Afghanistan.

My guess would be it wasn’t just 7th Fleet that was taking bribes and it was going on worldwide.

I knew him. And everyone is the suicide for. Military has a high suicide rate... That’s why we have annual training on his to prevent suicide.

...He has accumulated more than 4,500 mishap free flight hours and over 1,000 carrier-arrested landings...

That bit is very impressive since the total number of Navy pilots achieving 1,000 carrier-arrested landings is around 360 since 1911.

Because he was billeted in Bahrain, it probably was a result of heat frustration

*** Color me skeptical ***

ROBERT STEELE: I am told he was murdered by Bahreini security services at the request of the Office of Naval Intelligence (ONI) element attached to the fifth fleet. I have no direct knowledge. My source tells me he was murdered because he explicitly opposed the planned false flag attack in collaboration with the Israeli Navy simulating an Iranian patrol boat missile attack on a US naval vassal.

( Robert Steele is not to be confused with Christopher Steele of Steele Dossier Infamy)

It happens, remember ADM Borda? Committed suicide because of some sort of issue with allegedly unearned ribbons.

After 25-plus years of Service, my experience tells me general/flag officers almost exclusively commit suicide to avoid disgrace before some sort of legal trouble which would result in loss of rank/prestige/honor/benefits to survivors....pick one or more. NCOs and enlisted ranks are more prone to suffer from PTSD or other difficulties related to adjusting to life after combat. Logically so since NCOs and enlisted troops are closest to actual combat with a few commissioned types thrown in.

So, IF it was suicide then odds are it was likely related to some impending investigation with a less likely reason, yet probable, mental condition.

Regards.

WTH??? How did I miss this? Between this, the collisions with huge slow-moving commercial vessels, women in certain billets, LGBT acceptance, and general PC gone amok, what has happened to my Navy?

I'm almost ashamed of my handle here on FR.

It would be a twist on the USS Liberty, wouldn’t it?
The folks who attacked our ship to try to blame Egypt, only this time, we are collaborating with them to start that war with Iran.
