Tuesday’s midterm elections will be the “most secure” elections in U.S. history, according to Secretary of Homeland Security Kirstjen Nielsen, though the U.S. government remains on high alert for any election-related mischief.
“This is going to be the most secure election we’ve ever had,” Nielsen told the audience at a Council on Foreign Relations event on Friday. “But as we all know, this is a dynamic threat, it changes by the minute.”
Nielsen said that “as of today,” DHS has not seen a coordinated attempt by a foreign government to interfere in American voting infrastructure, such as voter databases, polling systems and voting machines, but pledged to notify state and local officials “the moment that changes.”
“Everyone should vote. Everyone should feel confident that state and local [officials] are doing everything they can to secure the infrastructure,” she said. “Because a very important thing here is the adversary wins if we don’t vote, right?”

Nielsen said such online influence operations were “very pernicious” and “much more difficult to get our hands around” than the effort to secure election infrastructure. The FBI has taken lead on battling the disinformation online, but Nielsen said much of the strategy comes down to “educating” the American public to consider the source of the information they’re reading.

“My biggest concern,” Nielsen said, “is that a foreign entity will take the opportunity after the election or the night of the election to attempt to sow discord through social media by suggesting that something did not work as it should in a certain area.”
Information operations experts recently described to ABC News the difficulty in fighting the online disinformation campaigns, as foreign and domestic trolls and bots continuously evolved to skirt new security policies implemented by social media companies.

I agree. I can't even begin to imagine the absolute tantrum that Democrats would throw if proof of citizenship (i.e., a birth certificate) was required to register to vote. They'd go though the roof!
Even with Trump at the helm, I highly doubt we'll ever see anything more than criminal penalties for prohibited people who are caught voting.
I am much more optimistic.
There’s going to be a lot of cheating. The real threat to the integrity of the vote is from the inside and from the left.
This statement from Nielsen may be meant to act like an inoculation; once the Dems lose hugely, their immediate response will of course be “The election was rigged/hacked/stolen” etc. Pf course Dems cannot listen to reason, and care nothing for reality or facts; but still this can be used to bludgeon them with.

I think the DHS has been doing a lot under the radar.
The federal government couldn’t even compel the states to give them voter information. Remember that Trump established a commission to investigate vote fraud, and he had to disband it. I hardly think that the federal government can guarantee anything when it comes to vote fraud. They are along for the ride along with the rest of us. Only congress can act to change that for federal elections.
.... Heck .... I live in SoCal (Southern California) and every year I request an English “Vote By Mail” Ballot every election cycle in the event I am not able to vote on election day. This year my first vote by mail ballot was sent in Spanish ..... Then after a second request for an English Ballot ... I received one in Hindi .....
.... Then .... After a long phone call on Thursday to the LA County Registrar I was assured my next "Vote by MAIL" Ballot ....... would definitely be in English .....
.... Long story Short ....... Believe it or not ..... When I received my ballot ... it was in Spanish and Hindi....... Sheesh.
..... Being spooked .... I also decided to check my vote by mail status a few weeks ago ..... On the state Registrars site ..... It says that my "Vote by Mail" ballot has been received and tabulated ..... Even though I have yet to vote ..... Welcome to ..... the Socialist Republic of KALIFORNIA .....

Because so many of the states were not cooperating with the commission headed by VP Pence, it was disbanded, and voting was designated a National Security issue, and DHS took over. I’ve read a few articles over the last year about this, and it appears they are acting quietly with very little public fancare. As far as I can remember, cleaning up voting rolls is what is happening, but in what manner, and what else may being done, I don’t know.
I don’t see why the fed gov can’t make clean elections. Other countries like India can do it. Everyone in India has a voter ID card.

I have a suspicion that states such as CA which have rampant fraud (as illustrated by your experience), may find themselves in some kind of legal difficulty.
Hopefully there is some kind of fedgov hotline for voting irregularities, fraud etc.

Registered voters should have to be checked in a database to make sure they’re eligible and only listed once, and paper ballots, and inked fingers.
No mail in ballots or early voting, and absentee voting only when there is a real necessity. Have to show up at polling place, and name is checked off.
How do those ideas sound?
.... I suggest that anybody voting by mail in this and every election check their online "Vote by Mail: Status" BEFORE You vote by mail ..... In my case ..... apparently I have already voted before I have even voted .....

I’m keeping an eye on Mom’s Voter Registration, She passed away August of 2017 and I’m working on getting Her off the Voter Roll.

Here in NC they had Voter ID on the Ballot so MAYBE it will happen this time. Heck one has to have ID to do damned near anything else.
Also here One can go online and check your Voter status.
Just sounds like propaganda to me.
It is the enemies domestic I am worried about — and not confident in the least that we are sufficiently guarded against.
Past time, but the Libs will find a reason to oppose.
