If your only source of information about American politics in 2018 were the GOP’s campaign ads, you would think that the Democratic Party was a radical left-wing organization, whose principal constituents were anarchists, misandrists, literal terrorists, and acolytes of Venezuelan president Nicolás Maduro. If you supplemented those 30-second spots with Donald Trump’s stump speeches, and Fox News’ prime-time lineup, you might further conclude that Nancy Pelosi was the chair of The House Antifa Caucus.
In other words: The GOP’s message-makers are working round-the-clock to collapse the distinctions between the Democratic Party and the most radical activists at the far-left fringes of its big tent.
The actually existing Republican Party, on the other hand, is an extreme, reactionary formation that champions procedural radicalism, nativism, voter suppression, far-right militia movements, the stigmatization of the Islamic faith, sheriffs who habitually violate the law and their constituents’ civil rights, the subordination of federal law enforcement to Donald Trump’s whims - and, unlike the vast majority of Americans, a smaller and less generous social-welfare state, lower taxes for the rich, the overturning of Roe v. Wade, fewer regulatory protections for consumers and the environment, and various reforms aimed increasing Wyatt Koch’s share of economic growth.
When the (unfortunately existing) centrist commentariat elides these distinctions - and wishes a pox on both “extreme cults” - they are helping the most ideologically extreme major party in the developed world blind the American people to how much they have in common.

Today’s democrats are dead center, midway between national socialists and soviet socialists. The vocal majority of their party’s leaders are at that special place in the socialist spectrum where they want absolute power and don’t care what justification they use to control all the little people - for our own good, of course.

All people who believe in mob rule.
If you supplemented the Kavanaugh hearings with news items about Republicans being assaulted, you might further conclude that Nancy Pelosi and her ilk should be in orange jump suits awaiting trial for inciting violence, and for violating their pledge to follow the Constitution.
Centrists? Sorry, you are at least a decade too late to even hope to get away with that fraud. These people are at best Neo-Marxists, at worse nihilistic terrorists with big party money. Bubble dwellers no longer make good political analysts.
The actually existing Democrat Party, on the other hand, is an extreme, socialist accretion that champions radical and reality-inverting infinite 'genders', globalism, voter fraud, far-left Antifa 'brown-shirt' violent movements, the loving embrace of radical terrorist Islamics, an abiding hatred of the Constitution and the ever-present desire to quash and minimize it, baseless accusations in kangaroo-court show-trials, hatred and oppression of the white race, antipathy to the long traditions of the Americas, a desire to strip the populace of any ability to resist tyranny by firearm, suppression of free speech, an overarching nanny-like cradle-to-grace social-welfare state, absurd levels of taxation, the abolition of personal property, unlimited slaughter of infants (both in the womb and out), oppressive regulation that stunts every natural business and personal activity, the hoarding of power for the sake of grinding others under their heel, absurd predictions of 'global warming' in a world rapidly entering a mini-Ice-Age, and an ever-present march to outright Communism.
