Major Hurricane Michael Live Thread II
NHC/NOAA ^ | 9 October 2018 | NHC/NOAA

Posted on 10/09/2018 4:49:06 PM PDT by NautiNurse

Major Hurricane Michael is churning toward the northeastern Gulf of Mexico coast. Florida Governor Rick Scott declared a state of emergency Monday for 35 counties with mandatory coastal evacuations in the FL Panhandle. 1,250 National Guard troops are aiding the process and more than 4,000 more placed on standby.

FEMA is already on the ground in Florida; other federal agencies are also preparing to assist people in the storm's path.

Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey on Monday declared a state of emergency for the entire state. Georgia Governor Nathan Deal issued a state of emergency for 92 counties ahead of Hurricane Michael landfall.

Meanwhile, Tallahassee city government (Andrew Gillum, Mayor & D'Rat FL Gubernatorial candidate) offices are "closed until further notice." Tallahassee International Airport ‏is suspending commercial flight activity as 12:01 a.m. ET on Wednesday but expects to resume activity on Thursday.

The U.S. military moved its aircraft from the Panhandle on Monday. Roughly 50 F-22 stealth fighter jets — valued around $150 million each — have been relocated from the Tyndall Air Force Base, while the U.S. Navy said it is moving all its training aircraft from Pensacola.

Energy Production The Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE) on Tuesday estimated that around 726 MMcf/d (28.4%) of natural gas production and 670,831 b/d (39.5%) of oil production in the GOM had been shut in ahead of the storm.

As of midday Tuesday, 75 platforms and three rigs had been evacuated, while eight dynamically positioned rigs had been moved out of the storm’s path as a precaution, according to BSEE.

I really think they need to privatize the buoys in the US.For example here in the keys many of the major lighthouses on the reef have nada. Private enterprise could do it a lot better than Noaa.

I would bet serious money anything flyable is long gone to other bases.

Stressful nonetheless. Expect TS winds. Hurricane force winds may remain east of P-cola.

Saw him(Cantore) this morning along with those formerly great looking weather gals who are now anorexic and looking sickly. Also they featured tallahassee mayor gillum who is running for gov.He wants to put everyone on medicaid with no one to pay the bill. hes an avowed socialist. NBC owns the weather channel and its fading fast.

I would think they flew them out but I have noticed on the local news that they mentioned everything but Eglin.

I live just about 50 miles North of PC.

Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Dept. issued a warning about Jim Cantore. Glad to see some folks maintain a sense of humor through gloom and doom.

Yikes! Good luck.

We have good friends that owned a place at Cape San Blas until a few years ago. Looking at the spaghetti models, I think it’s going to get hammered. They’re permanent up at Lake Martin now. Likely to get some wind and rain, but nothing big.

“Praying mightily on this one. I have a niece and her husband 15 miles inland determined to ride it out at home.”

Don’t know what their elevation is but the Indianola TX storm in the late 1800’s storm surge went 20 miles inland.

There are a large number of F-35s at Eglin. I wonder if they are being moved.

I take it you didn't read the story at the top of the thread.

My family has been in Walton County since at least the 1700s.

I lived most of my life away from this area but have gone through a few hurricanes.

I did read it.

The local news mentioned that all the various AC-130s were moved from Hurlburt but no mention of Eglin.

LOL...I just research extensively, practice typing and html skills on these threads. It would be silly to expect folks around here to actually read an article. Heck, many don't even look at the pictures.

Creepy is a word I used a little while ago to describe the storm.
