Democrats must be secretly delighted, not that theyll admit it. A couple of GOP Senators fell on Friday for their ruse of seeking an FBI investigation of an assault accusation against Brett Kavanaugh, and now this Supreme Court nomination ordeal will continue for at least another week. Who knows what new dirt against the judge they can throw on the Senate wall?
On Friday the Senate Judiciary Committee approved the Supreme Court nominee in an 11-10 party-line vote, with Arizona Senator Jeff Flake the last convert. That should have sent the nomination to the Senate floor and a vote early next week.
But then Mr. Flake had a crisis of, well, something and said he wanted another FBI investigation before a floor vote. After Alaskas Lisa Murkowski said she agreed with Mr. Flake, GOP Senate leaders agreed to a one-week FBI probe into current accusations. President Trump obliged and put the FBI on the case again.

The mystery is what new evidence Mr. Flake and Ms. Murkowski expect the FBI to find. The Senate this week heard six hours of public testimony from Judge Kavanaugh and his accuser, Christine Blasey Ford.
The potential witnesses Ms. Ford has named have given statements under penalty of perjury saying they dont recall the 1982 party she describes. No corroboration has materialized, leaving Democrats and the media to pick over high-school yearbook entries from 1983. Ms. Ford said Thursday that she is 100% certain Judge Kavanaugh assaulted her. He told the Senate that he is 100% certain of his innocence.

>>Has anybody read anything definitive about the limit of the FBI investigation? Got a link?<<
Limited in time (up to one week). Limited in content (only current allegations to be evaluated; no new allegations.) No link. Sorry.
The FBI will also interview Ford.
And document she committed perjury.
This investigation (I was against) could very well backfire on the democrats (if they colluded) and the accusers. I have my doubts that the accuser(s) wanted the FBI or police to get involved. They could face perjury.
This whole thing could be a “Don’t throw me in the briar patch, B’rer Rabbit” thing.
Nails why Trump agreed to it.
McConnell's saved our bacon before - looks like he's gonna do it again. Good man.
No they won't.
And document she committed perjury. "

“...what are the odds that the FBI will reveal something that helps Trump?”
I don’t think they will reveal anything at all - in fact, I think they may be a bit annoyed at the prospect of being asked to go through the motions when they have already said their work is complete. The request carries with it an implication that the six FBI background checks and investigations already completed were inadequate.
Rather than exceeding their normal scope in an effort to uncover evidence they previously failed to uncover, I find it far more likely that they will retrace their steps, explain and defend their original methods and scope, and produce the exact same results: nothing.
What I expect is that the FBI will
1) outline the scope of what they would normally do in a cold case like this (36 year old grope incident between minors, date unknown, location unknown, no police reports filed, no corroborating witnesses, and a sketchy recollection by accuser).
2) outline what parts of 1) have already been done by the FBI and/or by the Senate judiciary committee - witness testimonies received, witness statements received, evidenced gathered and reviewed)
3) complete any parts of 1) not covered in 2)
The FBI has already said that their work is complete, so being asked to do it again is somewhat like being asked to vacuum a room that you just vacuumed - I think the FBI may a bit annoyed and I would not be surprised if they produced their updated report in LESS than a week.
Thanks much. That’s comforting.
Thanks for seeing the big picture, FRiend.
I am distraught over the number of FReepers who claim that they will never vote for the GOP again. I wonder how many of them are actually trolls.
Yes, the GOP has some bad problems. But let us put things in focus. There are 48 GOP senators solidly behind Kavanaugh. The process is being held up by the egregious Flake and the two RINO harridans.
I don’t really blame Grassley and McConnell. I wouldn’t want to try getting out any sort of conservative message against a RAT party that is rapidly going Marxist and its media lackeys.
When voting day arrives, if you cannot vote FOR the Republicans, at least vote AGAINST the Democrats. If you stay home because your conservative principles are offended by GOP weakness, you are only playing into the hands of the evil Marxists.
We must vote for the long term, and give our great president a more cooperative GOP Congress.
With what we know now, if you could transport to Germany in the early 1930s, wouldn’t you have voted for anyone who wasn’t a Nazi or a Communist, no matter how much you didn’t like them?
McC finessed that Gorsuch nom like a pro——Dems still trying to figure out what happened.
Except I assume they never interviewed Christine Ford before they had no reason to. I would love it if they get the truth from her, but they wont.
Great post!
This is another Wiley Coyote episode for the Demons.
Getting the nomination out of Committee is a WIN, not a loss.
You don’t understand what happened and cannot see that getting the nomination out of committee is a victory.
Demon shenanigans are pissing of everyone outside the coasts and big cities (and some there.)
By the Principal of Diminishing Returns each new charge has less (and even a negative) impact. No one believes this crap. And they will believe the next load of manure even less.
I was under the impression it is illegal to detain a Congress member on their way to vote. I also thought security is supposed to be present there during high risk times like this for just this sort of incident. My conclusion is This HAD to have been staged with the OK of FLAKE.
