China on Monday denied a United States Navy permission request for a port visit next month to Hong Kong, The Wall Street Journal reported on Monday.
The decision to deny the port visit comes as tensions between the U.S. and China escalate on both economic and military fronts.
The ship, the Wasp Expeditionary Strike Group, is currently in the East China Sea, according to the Journal. The ship has been at sea since August and can hold as many as 1,600 Marines and sailors on board, the newspaper reported.
China also canceled an upcoming meeting between top naval officers from the two countries, the Journal also reported.
Chinese Vice Admiral Shen Jinlong was scheduled to meet in the U.S. with Chief of Naval Operations Adm. John Richardson at the International Seapower Symposium, a gathering of global naval officials in Rhode Island, according to the Journal.
We were informed that Vice Adm. Shen Jinlong has been recalled to China and wont conduct a visit with Adm. Richardson. We have no additional information at this time, Pentagon spokesman and Army Lt. Col. David Eastburn told the newspaper in a statement.
Last week, the U.S. sanctioned China and a Chinese official, Li Shangfu, for purchases of fighter jets and missiles from the Kremlin.
The State Department said Shangfu and China were targeted for purchases of Su-35 combat aircraft and equipment for S-400 surface-to-air missile systems from Russia in late 2017 and early 2018.
The Trump administration also imposed its latest round of tariffs on China earlier this month, targeting $200 billion of Chinese imports.
That announcement prompted China to retaliate with tariffs on $60 billion of U.S. imports.
Vietnam isnt that far away.
We hear they dont care for you guys. Maybe they will like our money.
So, Liberty call is not happening?
Hey joe! 5 dolla!
China WILL take over ALL of Hong Kong’s asset’s
any foreign investment should look to safeguard their$$
Sort of interesting that we would Want the WASP to visit-
WITH their detachment of the latest F35 Vertical Stealth
planes onboard?— how about Singapore? or Manila? instead-
The ultimate goal is to expel the US Navy from the Western Pacific.
They want us tooling around by Wake Island, Midway, whatever.
But nowhere near real commerce.
Wait.. there’s a ship called the “Wasp Expeditionary Strike Group”? What, did USS Wasp collide with all of her escorts?
When Our bases in the Philippines were shut down Vietnam offered to lease us our old bases back at DaNang and Cam Ranh Bay...................
Sour grapes.....
Dock In Taipei or HaiPhong instead.
Maybe Beijing is worried that the very public Navy trangender ‘Harpy’ something or other, is on that ship and will ‘demand his/her rights’ to come ashore.
Not everyone in the world is keen on flaunting the rainbow.
If this should be the case, maybe Bangkok would be a better call.
Go to Taiwan and really rattle the ChiCom’s ass.
There is always Singapore.
Blocking Ships from Ports can go both ways
Too bad we closed subscribed in the PI
Maybe we should refuse porting a few dozen trinket loaded super freighters.
Not ALL of the OOD's in the surface navy are females, nor are all the officers in CIC females.
Therefore not all OOD's involved in surface collisions cry at their court-martial.
If you’re referring to Subic Bay, I believe we have resumed using that base on a smaller scale since 2015 or so (based on a 2012 agreement). All contingent upon the Philippines government giving prior approval, of course - and I’m not sure where the current government stands on that subject.
A recent ex-Navy acquaintance mentioned several times how the girly boys in Thailand were so common. I'm not sure his contact with them was any "deeper" than just seeing them from afar.... It is a different Navy than the one I was in.
