Former Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton defended Christine Blasey Ford's request for an FBI investigation into her claims of sexual assault against Brett Kavanaugh in an interview Friday.
Speaking with CBS host Stephen Colbert on "The Late Show," the former secretary of state said that it would be "very easy" for FBI agents to investigate Ford's claims in a manner of weeks.
"I am hoping at some point there will be an agreement to have an investigation," Clinton told Colbert on Friday night's show, which taped earlier in the day.
"It would be very easy for the FBI to go back and finish the background investigation, to investigate these charges," she adds. "And, you know, maybe find out there's nothing to them, maybe find out there is something to them. But at least have that investigation completed."
"And I think that's what is a fair request, for due process to be asked for," she finished.
The remarks followed an interview earlier in the week in which Clinton said that an FBI probe into Ford's allegation that Kavanaugh held her down at a high school party decades ago while forcibly groping her and attempting to remove her clothes would not be a "lengthy" investigation, possibly taking a manner of a couple weeks.
"I don't think it would be a lengthy investigation," Clinton told MSNBC's "The Rachel Maddow Show. "I think it could be done in an expeditious manner. If they're still trying to have a vote on this nominee, they could postpone for two weeks."
"The White House could answer it very quickly, by asking the FBI to reopen its background check and to take into account the accusation that has been made and to gather the evidence about what can be known," she added in Tuesday's appearance.
The FBI indicated in a statement this week that it would not investigate the allegation due to its nature involving crimes at the state level. Still, Democrats have pushed the administration to open a probe into Ford's claims before Kavanaugh's nomination is voted on by the full Senate.
The FBI does not make any judgment about the credibility or significance of any allegation," the Justice Department said in a statement Monday.
"The purpose of a background investigation is to determine whether the nominee could pose a risk to the national security of the United States. The allegation does not involve any potential federal crime. The FBI's role in such matters is to provide information for the use of the decision makers.
Anyone with a Twitter account want to start a trend?

Hypocrisy is strong with this one.
Sure. /s
no, FBI only investigates federal crimes
(like, say, most of HilLIARy’s violations?)
The media and the Democrats (redundant) just keep going along with this talking point even though this is not something that could be investigated by the FBI. In addition, they could have turned this over to the FBI and it would have been part of his background file from the beginning - so them claiming they now want an FBI investigation is obviously just another in an endless series of lies from these people.
Maybe Hillary could demand the FBI to investigate where the some $5billion went missing when she was head of the state department, maybe she could get the FBI to investigate the on goings of Pizza Gate, or better yet have them investigate the head of the DNC for his misconduct and last on the list is her husband and Arkencide cases
As someone recently noted, maybe Trump should nominate Hillary to SCOTUS so we can finally get an real FBI investigation of HER life
Bill Clinton wishes these women were speaking about him...

Keen idea, hag. The FBI should investigate every transaction made on your illegal private server first. Then they should investigate the funds gathered and dispensed from the Clinton Foundation since its inception. By that time, you will be dead, so you won’t ever make it to prison, where you should have been spending your golden years.
You've got to hand it to Hillary. We elected President Trump and instead of her being the promised object of investigation, we end up with President Trump fighting for his life in countless investigations and witch hunts.
What happened? After the election when President Trump let it slide for Hillary, it was taken as a sign of weakness and the Dems seized the initiative. The lesson is never cut them any slack. Stay on offense. Never forgive, never forget. Never let them put you on defense.
"Lock her up!"
“The media and the Democrats (redundant) just keep going along with this talking point ...”
Of course they do. The Democrats have figured out that anyone who is smart enough to understand that Ford’s bizarre accusations are completely outside the purview of the FBI won’t be voting for them anyway.
This is all about riling up the Democrat base. Facts don’t matter, truth doesn’t matter. Is there a pool on when Kavanaugh gets accused of some racist misstep in his past?
Hey, Sessions! Wake up! We're waiting . . . and so is your boss!
Someone ought to point out to the dems that Kavanaugh has had multiple background checks over his career and that there was no concern over his past. Had there been, he would not have been allowed to serve where he did.
This dem tactic will continue until they experience severe negative repercussions. The GOP response should have been on the day that DiFi brought this up is to say that time was up, you had your chance, the vote is today. When the GOP coddles the left in these antics, they will continue to use them. At time, and way to often, the GOP is the Stupid Party.
The FBI cannot investigate. Clinton is a fool
like Hillary can even determine what’s fair? with all the decent people she and Bill have trampled and abused in so many ways for decades.
This is what happens when “lock her up” was just a campaign lie.
“The purpose of a background investigation is to determine whether the nominee could pose a risk to the national security of the United States.
When do we get to see obama college records?
