I think Collins’ idea is a good one... it’s a reminder to the accuser b!tch that this isn’t a game... you’re going under oath will be required to answer some very harsh questions. Does anyone doubt Kavanaugh, after what he underwent during the first hearing, will handle the line of questioning just fine?

Well, it's a dumb idea, but....

Truth is that it would likely help Kavanaugh quite a bit. It's much touchier to ask harsh, difficult question of an alleged sexual assault victim than it is to ask similar questions of the accused guy. It shouldn't be that way, but it is. Any Senator who grilled Ford properly would be blasted by the me too Nazis and Democrats. The Democrats will have no equivalent reluctance to go nasty early against Kavanaugh.

However, if you bring in a non-politician lawyer whose job it is to ask difficult questions, it is much more likely that those tough questions get asked of Ford because the lawyer doesn't have to worry about blowback.

So, while I do think this is a dumb idea that sets a bad precedent, it would actually be a good thing for the GOP and Kavanaugh.

“This statement from Collins might be intended to make the accuser think long and hard about whether she wants to even show up.”

Agree. It seems this situation the accuser has allowed herself due I believe pressure from the Democrat party is snowballing beyond anything she assumed.

Her future will include threats from her side if she even tries to chicken out. I think this is a crowd she will regret wanting so badly to be in with.

Correct this is a smart move. Let the lawyers for each party have time to question the accused and the accuser. Only way to be fair. Most to the GOP Senators on the committee are men and they are terrified of looking like a meanie on national TV. They will play softball with Mrs Ford. Kavanaugh’s lawyer won’t she’ll play hardball.

what about Chuck “The F*ck” Grassley? The old coot is allowing himself to be played by the RATs. The Party of “count the votes until you win,” is also a past master at “character assassination of anyone they don't like!” This is how they operate, and Grassley is letting them prevail. It STINKS!

This is encouraging, coming from one of the soft, questionable Republicans. I heard Collins was upset with Feinstein at the whole way this issue was know about and sat on by Feinstein, to be used at the last minute.

Agreed. It indicates rather strongly that Collins favors the hearing, so if Ford refuses to appear at all, Kavanaugh is going to get Collins' vote.

Dems are getting squeezed on this one.

This seems like an attempt by Collins to protect the Senators from appearing to be hostile to the woman.

She wants to make the lawyers ask the politically harsh questions, and then the Senators can appear "above the fray" and ask follow-up or clarifying questions, without appearing to be the ones who accused the woman.

By the way, has anyone checked the bank accounts for unusually large deposits of the Ford family? Both here and offshore of course.

Yep... further, there’ll be far less political grandstanding by private lawyers than by a gaggle of posturing senaturds who can’t stand to be more than a foot away from the nearest microphone.

Kavanaugh has spent a bazillion more hours in court than Ford and her lawyer combined.

The outcome is not in doubt and histrionics will not do the Democrats well.

Bingo. Despite how she is generally a huge pain the keister for conservatives, her statements on this actually have been pretty good. Not always smart, but at least leaning toward the right result.

K should flat out refuse to put on a prosecution of this woman.

He should make himself available to answer questions but otherwise decline to play any role in a game with rules that are stacked against him. There is only downside.

Let the Senate figure out how to play this. There is no prospect of this turning out as anything other than a farce. Let the Senate look stupid.

That's not how people are bribed anymore.

The process now is:

1. Step up and do your job as a political operative.

2. Get a book deal and/or a TV deal and/or a high-paying job at an academic institution or non-profit advocacy group.

Isn’t she a huge horse’s butt? I am so sick and tired of this kind of garbage. How many times will these damned people go to the well and be successful?? I am so sick of the damned circus that seems to pitch a tent so easily making a total mockery of our most solemn traditions.

Don’t any of them take this stuff seriously any longer?
