Facebook And Apple Remove Pages And Podcasts From Alex Jones For Hate Speech Violations
CNBC ^ | 08/06/18 | Ryan Browne

Apple confirmed on Monday that it had removed five out of six podcasts, which includes Jones' infamous The Alex Jones Show.

Facebook has also removed four pages that belong to Jones.

Both companies said Jones violated hate speech policies on their respective platforms.

Apple and Facebook clamped down on content by Alex Jones Monday, with the former pulling five of his podcasts and the latter removing four pages controlled by him.

Apple confirmed on Monday that it had removed five out of six podcasts, which includes Jones' infamous "The Alex Jones Show" as well as a number of other InfoWars audio streams. The news was originally reported by BuzzFeed News.

Jones, a controversial conspiracy theorist who has claimed that the 2012 Sandy Hook school shooting was a hoax, has been hit with other content bans from the likes of Google's YouTube and Spotify.

Apple's move seems slightly more dramatic — the company has taken down entire libraries of InfoWars podcasts, rather than a select few episodes.

"Apple does not tolerate hate speech, and we have clear guidelines that creators and developers must follow to ensure we provide a safe environment for all of our users," an Apple spokesperson said in a statement on Monday.

"Podcasts that violate these guidelines are removed from our directory making them no longer searchable or available for download or streaming. We believe in representing a wide range of views, so long as people are respectful to those with differing opinions."

Facebook ban

Later on Monday morning, Facebook announced it was removing four of Jones' pages for persistently uploading content in breach of the social network's content guidelines.

Yes the 1st Amendment does address it.

It’s called freedom of speech and religion.

Facebook, Twitter are platforms run by libs. Why aren’t there any popular conservative platforms?

“...we need to make [the First Amendment] apply to private companies.”

I don’t think we want to go there. Rather, I think we need to provide some conservative competition to Facebook and Apple as posting sites and search engines. It would take some time and money, but it would be better for the country, and the world. Competition nearly always improves goods and services.

Plus as an American Alex has the right to his opinion. Good men and women have died so that we can preserve our Rights.

And unlike the lyin' media, he does not label his opinion "news reporting".

Regardless of any opinions you may have no one can keep you from having them and it would be idiotic to think so. That is probably why there is no Constitutional right defending holding an opinion. You do not have a Constitutional right to hold an opinion and no one died defending such a thing.

What you have is a First Amendment Right that prevents the government from inhibiting your right to speak. There is no right to have a podcast on iTunes and to say men and women died protecting this so called right right is an insult.

Is the US government trampling on anyone’s First Amendment Rights?

California, Washington, Oregon, Massachusetts, and Colorado have imposed similar broad First Amendment rights on shopping malls.

These companies can be sued in California and Washington, where they have their headquarters.

Liberals have wrapped themselves in the mantle of “love”, educated, smart, rational for YEARS.
By their own definition, EVERYONE else is guilty of hate speech if not to be denigrated as too stupid to be listened to ... which is why Twitter’s quality filter is overwhelmingly censoring moderate conservative voices.

This is why I don’t use them....................

The Jews didn't have to listen to Hitler's radio rants. The problem was the Germans were listening to them.

Not participating won't solve the problem.

I don’t like Inforwars. However, this does not matter if you like him or not.

Apple, Facebook, Spotify, YouTube (Google) all banned Infowars within 12 hours of each other.

Don’t tell me that this wasn’t a coordinated attack.

I’m sorry, but they don’t get to claim private business protections.
My power company (FPL) is a private business too, but they can’t turn off my power because they don’t like me.

They are going to find themselves subject to campaign finance laws.

Since the government does not own or operate it, the First Amendment does no apply to their operations or conduct.

The government didn't own and operate lunch counters either, but they decided they should have a say in making certain citizens had a right to sit at them.

We are now at a time where the dominant form of speech in this nation is carried by private companies, and now they are moving in a lockstep. It is effectively just as bad as government controlled speech, because it has the exact same consequence.

The first amendment does not apply to private property, such as Facebook.

See Marsh v Alabama. Facebook has 1.6 BILLION members (supposedly) worldwide, making it the most public forum that has ever existed. Free speech rights exist in such a space. Just need the right court ruling to confirm that.

First amendment applies to government. Not private companies.

Said the Baker to the government.

Do you see “Apple” or “Facebook” or “A private company”?

I see a statement of intent to prohibit censorship. We can extrapolate everything necessary from that.
