Boris Johnson tells PM she is suffocating Brexit 'dream'

Boris Johnson has launched a scathing attack on Theresa May's Brexit strategy, saying the "dream is dying, suffocated by needless self-doubt".

In his letter resigning as foreign secretary he claimed the prime minister was leading the UK into a "semi-Brexit" with the "status of a colony".

His resignation came hours after Brexit Secretary David Davis quit the cabinet.

I think if enough leave then it causes a no confidence vote and the government falls. Then the party choose a new leader. Then they have a general election against the other party - all seats up for grabs. The party that win the majority have their leader ascend to PM. Public never votes directly for a PM. Oh, and it’s also been suggested that the libs could pull a switcheroo and get rid of Corbyn and put the islamo-bolshie Salman Khan in the driver’s seat.

A Trump tweet about Tommy Robinson would be just enough to send May over the cliff

May seemed to make a point of stiffarming the two people in the world who could have saved her from her current difficulties. She should resign before trump arrives and that would give whoever takes her place a clean slate from which to start. As far as replacements go they meed someone with courage and vision as well as intelligence. Farage is smart and he has been on the front lines for a very long time. If she is still there when trump gets there he will be as polite to her as possible but i suspect that trump will be thinking of the future of the uk as part of the heritage of the english speaking world more than anything else.

I watched the churchill movie on my flight back from uk and it is an inspiration of sorts.

Without following details in UK politics, Jacob Rees-Mogg seems like a stronger leader. Social conservative, Catholic, has backing from some younger Conservative Party members. Gove seems the favorite though. Boris Johnson might be more show horse and less race horse.

> We’d have to spring either him or Tommy, but why not? <

Out of curiosity, I looked it up. The Queen can certainly issue a royal pardon. It sure would be nice if Elizabeth pardoned Tommy. That would send a clear message.

But it will never happen. The Queen reigns, but does not rule. Parliament must be consulted. The Prime Minister must be consulted. Blah, blah, blah...as Elizabeth’s UK goes down the drain.

True in the cases of France and Germany. But in the UK, Theresa was imposed upon them by the Party Powers-That-Be, as I recall. Let’s hope that this current debacle of Brexiteers having to endure Theresa May (a Remainer) as such a weak leader, especially since she is the PM expected direct something as important as Brexit, will cause Conservatives to insist upon choosing their own party’s leader this time.

Maybe Ms May will be gone by Friday when Trump arrives? Maybe he can cancel his visit over the turbulence in the British government? Find a reason not to go to fascist Britain.

Does this force an election or does the communist become PM

In a Westminster Parliamentary Democracy (like in the UK, Canada, Australia, NZ, etc), we don't actually vote for the Prime Minister; that's the leader of whichever party gets the most MPs elected. As soon as that leader/PM "loses the confidence" of his party's caucus, the party usually changes its leader (and PM) internally, without an election.

So if enough Tory MPs get scared enough by the polls, they can get rid of Theresa May and put in somebody else without Jeremy Corbyn even getting a sniff at the PM's office.

She won’t go quietly. She has been steadily working against Brexit, but now, she probably has told her party members if she goes down, she will take them with her.

In these types of situations i find it amusing to play the game wwtd (what would trump do). In the current situation i believe trump would plow forward and visit. By doing so he could de facto claim mays scalp without saying a word. And he could take advantage of the turmoil by offering uk a special trade deal or intelligence deal or whatever. Trump always takes advantage of turmoil; specifially, to make deals. In this case maybe a charity case but still a deal. Trump can use political capital of having an ally at 10 downing. That would give him another political beachfront in europe from which he could effectively help augment the destruction of the EU.

Farage isn’t even a Member of Parliament, let alone leader of a party.
