Anyone Watching the Netflix Show "Occupied" From Norway?
Netflix ^ | 06.23.18 | chickensoup

In the near future, Norway is occupied by Russia on behalf of the European Union, due to the fact that the newly elected environmental friendly Norwegian government has stopped the all important oil- and gas-production in the North Sea.

I liked Occupied. I can’t recall if I just watched one season or two - I’ll have to look in case II wasn’t out yet (it’s been awhile).

Another show I enjoyed was “Lillihammer”. An American gangster is put on the witness protection program and picks the small town of Lillihammer, Norway to live.

“What? I watched the Olympics - it looked pretty.”

It was quirky, funny, and the gangster brings his American views of immigration, hard-work and antigovernment to Norway. The actor that plays the gangster was one of the main henchmen on “The Sopranos”.

Congratulations. Molotov cocktails got their name during the Winter War between Finland and the Soviet Union fall ‘39. Originals had gasoline soaked rags. The Finish Liquor Commission donated 5000 empty bottles. Professional ones have a sulfuric acid capsule that breaks to ignite the flammables.

No, I cancelled Netflix when they brought Traitor Rice on board.

BUT! I did watch ‘Lilyhammer” from Netflix, and it is an enormously entertaining production.

” Doesn’t make sense. We have 500 US Marines on the Norwegian Russia that would stop them. “

OK, point taken (perhaps you were being facetious), but maybe that’s why they are there, a tripwire as it were. I would hope that the Norse would put up a hell of a fight regardless.

I enjoyed Lillihammer too.

I also enjoyed 30 Degrees in February. About Swedish nationals and Thailand.

Outstanding series. Believabe plot, great character development, accurate portrayal of how Russia implements a soft coup and the difficult choices and prices the citizens of the occupied country pay to resist or to "go along to get along".

Well worth watching, and the time, enjoy!

I visited Norway in 1979. I mentioned to a relative if they were worried about the Russians; sharing a border and all.

“The Russians!!?? They never have bothered us. It is the Germans that we are worried about.” Said sincerely.

I had another relative that as a 20-something was in the Norwegian Resistance. He hid from the Nazi’s the whole time, and never told anyone what he had done. “It will go to the grave with me. There are still Nazi’s, and I don’t want any harm to come to my children.”

difficult to find such series.

I have enjoyed Rain, and one called 30 (and I cannot remember the rest of the title). Both Scandinavian

You might want to check out "Nobel," another Norwegian series. The protagonist, Erling Riiser, is a sniper in an elite Norwegian paratrooper unit. Set against the backdrop of the Norwegian military in Afghanistan, the various storylines focus on NGOs and corruption, double-dealing govt types and the military.

For example, the protagonist's wife is shocked, horrified even, to learn that her husband, the elite paratrooper sniper, at times actually, you know, kills people. How she deals with this realization, especially as the story goes on and she learns more about who her husband really is, is just one of the really interesting parts of this series.

Yes, Netflix. But it was still really good!

I will look for it, thanks.

We should start a thread here of good thoughtful interesting shows to watch. Ones with depth and texture.

I just finished the second season. I was rooting for the Russians more than I expected.

wondered how the Norwegians saw the main Character, the PM who was ousted. Whether he was heroic to them or not.

Just finished season 2

I think it has helped me to understand the Scandinavian mind.

I could never understand how for instance the Swedes have let their country be occupied by Moslims.

But when I watched the emotional denial being played out in Occupied, I better understood how people can deny what is in front of them, or even the emotions that arise, in order to stay cognitively safe, and within their tribe.

What they have been told all their lives, does not line up with reality, whether it be with emotions, sex or politics, and they just ignore it.

Amazing.
