Hmmm. The Japanese kill fish with a single blow to the head with a type of pointed hatchet, all but sever the tail to drain the blood, and run a wire up the spine to prevent any "stress" signals from reaching glands that might "taint" the flesh.
Being boiled alive, seems to me, would have the brain sending endocrine glands into overdrive.

I ordered a fish dish in a Chinese restaurant in San Diego. When it arrived on a plate it was still gasping. It had diagonal slits cut in its sides to facilitate cooking but had been fried alive. I quickly requested it be returned to the kitchen.
