Those little Studebakers were super fast too. I think the Avanti would top out at 170. The Champion on top was fun, drove one in 1956. The Golden Hawk was awesome, Silver Hawk was a little less so. The 1950 Studebaker had class too.
That center bullet nose was converted to a steerable headlight for the Tucker.

Introducing the 1921 Rumpler TropfenwagenOh wow, needs to run on steam for maximal retrofuturistic glam! The driver should wear a cape like this too:

The Avanti was the fastest production car in 1963, and not just USA!

The Avanti was the fastest production car in 1963, and not just USA! That was sort of my memory.
I was in San Francisco in 1956 and my aunt provided a 56 Commander(v8) Auto trans for me to drive to school, It wan't a Corvette but it was no slouch.
One thing I remember for sure was hold on hill brake, me being from flat land OK that was a life saver in the hills of San Francisco.
My previous recollection was I drove a Studebaker Champion but I was unable to find any reference to a Champion with V8 so it must have been a commander, memory sucks as we get older. I do remember that the 6x6 truck I drove in the Army was made by Studebaker, WW II vintage I guess, that was in 1957.
