One thing I really respect about Gordon Ramsey is he raised animals for food with his children. The kids named them, fed them and then went to the butchery (or sometimes the butcher came to the Ramsey farm).
The point Gordon wanted to make to his kids is that meat does not magically appear on your shelves. It is raised and these were living animals at one time. Every morsel should be respected.
City folk should do the same.

since pigs are smarter than dogs
We had friends who were pig farmers. The wife would ask to hang out at our house during butchering day because the noise would get to her. They knew what was going on and hundreds of them would scream for hours.

Rule #1 when teaching children to raise livestock: DON'T name it. Pets get named. Livestock gets numbered.

I thought a lot about that when the show was covering the whole naming thing. I think Ramsey was trying to make a stronger connection than just in passing.
He was making a point and making it stick. It seemed effective but I don’t know if there is some trauma from that or not.
But yeah, I couldn’t butcher “

Every morsel should be respected.
And this is the essence of kosher. God wanted the blood drained from the meat to show that life is in the blood. All who attended respected life.
Now it is just a word and a tradition for Jews and the rest of us, a process at the packing plant. It is mechanical now but it is a gruesome process. The hammer comes down AFTER the animal has the blood drained, The eyes of the animal during the process will haunt you.
The knock out before the process is much more humane. Next time anyone buys kosher, I hope a picture comes into the mind.

Rule #1 when teaching children to raise livestock: DON'T name it. Pets get named. Livestock gets numbered. My grandmother had enough of that.
My grandfather would raise a hog every year and butcher and smoke it.
But before that he was essentially a pet and quite friendly.
She notified him she could get bacon, ham and pork chops from the grocery store, thank you very much.

Grandchildren would come visit and play with the pig.
The last time they had named it ‘Arnold’ after the pig from ‘Green Acres’.
Then the day came when they visited and asked ‘Where’s Arnold?’
She was done after that.

We were permitted to use food names for the friendly ones (and there weren’t many), but did our best not to pet or talk to Ham and Bacon. I know better, but named a few of my egg hens. Tuesday night, I lost a French one. But, I named her Marie Antoinette for a reason. Something told me she wouldn’t keep her head!

I guess that means you can no longer take your dog for a wok.Well done.
I really don't understand laws like this. Why should it be illegal to sell dog for food, but not cow? Or horse for that matter, as long as it is properly labeled for what it is?
