A South Korean court has ruled the killing of dogs for meat is illegal, in a landmark decision that animal rights activists have said could pave the way to outlawing the eating of canines.
A ruling from the city court in Bucheon on Thursday, in a case brought by the animal rights group Care against a dog farm operator, said meat consumption was not a legal reason to kill dogs.
It is very significant in that it is the first court decision that killing dogs for dog meat is illegal itself, said Kim Kyung-eun, a lawyer for Care.
The precedent paved the way for outlawing dog meat consumption entirely, she added.
The practice is now something of a taboo among younger generations amid increased pressure from activists.

That's how they remove the fur. Usually while the dog is still alive.
They believe torture makes the meat more tasty.
To: PeterPrinciple
I guess that means you can no longer take your dog for a wok.

You have disgusting principles.

Well, since pigs are smarter than dogs, I suppose there is soon to be a bacon shortage there as well.
Or is it already illegal to kill and eat pigs?

Someone disagrees with you and that makes their principles “disgusting”? Seriously?

I’m opposed to killing dogs.
And I obviously would never voluntarily eat dog meat.
But it’s their business. Leave them alone.

Grim reality but frankly ANY meat butchering is pretty gruesome.

I am very happy that the SK court took this first step. Actually, they did not outlaw killing the dogs outright, which is what should have been done, but they outlawed various practices surrounding dog slaughter. And it's not just killing the dogs that brings wretching tears to my eyes, but how they do it. The dogs have their legs tied so uncomfortably behind their backs, which must be excruciating by itself. The fiends grab the dogs around the head or neck with iron pincers, beat them (somehow they think it improves the meat), while they are fully conscious, and start to skin them alive. With all my heart, I would like to see those who do this and those who eat the dogs (and cats) get exactly the same treatment, second for second. Let their skin bruise from the beating and then blacken from the flames of torches used to dehair them. Perhaps they would lose consciousness before they get cut up alive. Maybe that's what it would take to awaken any tiny molecule of humanity they have in their pathetic selves. To treat G-d's creatures with such abject cruelty is beyond comprehension.
Young Koreans are getting out of the dog-eating tradition, thank goodness. 70% of SK do not eat dogs.

Yes it is and everyone one should observe and/or do this. Respect for life will be much improved.
