As Nashville Rapidly Expands, Residents Worry the Metropolis Is Growing Too Fast
Wall Street Journal ^

NASHVILLE— Kathleen Ervin moved here 12 years ago from the Northeast, drawn to the relaxed atmosphere, green parks and relatively low cost of living.

But in the past five years, her commute time from her 1950s ranch house in the Glendale neighborhood to her job about 12 miles away has tripled on some days to 45 minutes because of increased traffic. Developers are buying nearby properties, tearing them down and building “tall skinnies”—multistory homes geared toward wealthier home buyers.

“We hear all this talk about how Nashville doesn’t want to become Houston, Nashville doesn’t want to become Atlanta,” said the 54-year-old account manager at a merchant processor. “Who is preventing that from happening?”

Nashville and much of the South is experiencing explosive growth while Northeastern areas are actually shrinking. Sounds good at first but, like this story says, we are attracting not only NE business but NE people, who will bring their liberal attitudes. They will demand us Southerners change, not them, "for the better"Plus I hate the urban sprawl and traffic this will cause.

I was in Nashville last week. My coworker who is from there was mentioning the very same things. The traffic to the airport was kind of dense. America is becoming way too many immigrants from 3 rd world.

I wish Nashville still had country music.

The immigrants causing problems are refugees from New Jersey and Michigan. The ones from Guatemala don’t have three cars and don’t live in adjacent counties 40 miles from their office and then have the moronitude to act surprised when there’s traffic problems.

So, as a “recent native” she believes growth should have stopped the day after she arrived 12 years ago. And she doesn’t understand how stupid that looks.

We went and looked at houses 4 years ago. Wish we had bought anything then because they have all $ doubled. Though do I want to live in another crowded lib city? I loved it for what it was, not for what it might be turning into. Still on my list of destinations...

Remember when most suburban neighborhoods looked like this after dinnertime in the summer? I miss those days.

Dallas/Fort Worth area is no better. And they decide to do road construction on the major roadways at the same time. I like that we have tremendous economic growth and companies want to relocate here, but geez the congestion is stupid crazy

America has problems with the illegal alien, colonist, immigrants and the home grown libtard migrants. The liberals and illegals have pretty much fouled the Northeast. Now it’s onto the South.

Too many libtards are moving into Nashville now that non country celebutards have discovered it.

I am very concerned about Marsha Blackburn in November.

I think country music is what has spared Nashville so far. As that genre devolves, so will Nashville demographics.

I don’t think you can call anything coming out of Nashville in recent years, “Country”.

My brother moved to a new place about 35 miles east of Nashville several years ago. He wanted to be out of the city but close enough to easily drive in whenever he wanted to. Apparently, a lot of people think that is a decent distance to commute, because several sub-divisions have sprung up around his property, and none of them are cheap.

On my semi-annual migrations to and from Florida I dread driving through Nashville even more than Atlanta. It’s gotten that bad.

Part of it is just I-24 and the continuous need to exit left then exit right then exit left, etc, to stay on it. In Atlanta it’s pretty easy to stay on I-75 right through.

LOL! I caught that as well.

I've seen it before. As a born and bred Colorado native, I watched as everyone moved in from out of state and then complained at how crowded it became

Just as long as Nashville does not become a Los Angeles, or Seattle, or Portland, or (ptui-ptui) San Sh*tcisco.

Nashville having some immigrants isn’t new.

The medical field(with Vanderbilt, baptist, St Johns, etc) have long attracted foreign interest.

What worries me is they are in every city and town in Tennessee. If it is bad new, how bad is it in California, Texas, etc?
