Spain's new socialist government promised on Friday it would restore free healthcare for undocumented migrants, a right removed by the former administration as part of cost-cutting.
The move is the latest migrant-friendly initiative by the government of Pedro Sanchez, who offered on Monday to take in a rescue ship that was drifting in the Mediterranean sea with 629 migrants on board. Italy and Malta had refused to let it dock.
The government will draw up a draft law with the proposal, it said, which must be approved by parliament. Although the Socialists have a minority of 84 seats in the 350-member assembly, most parties back the proposal and it seemed certain to be approved.

I too lived in Spain and the Spanish (in the late 90s) prided themselves on not being racist. They would chastise me for being from such a racist country. I’d ask them “let me just check. Would you let your daughter marry a gypsy?” And they would look at me aghast and declare that “That’s not the same! Those people are thieves and liars!” Their big on virtue signaling, underneath the surface though...
That was the name that they applied to northern Africans, presumably derived from Moroccans. They were not referring to the Philippine Moros.

Happened to me in the south of France in college. Other students would hit me with how horrible we were to the blacks and the Indians. And I would mention how they treat the Arabs and they’d say “But that is different! They are ARABS!” the defense rests.
