I’ve spent the night at a Motel 6 exactly one time, and it wasn’t long ago. I was supposed to be spending that night with friends in a fancy log home that I rented through AirBnB, but the owner turned out to be a raving lunatic who kicked us out in the middle of the stay because she realized one of the last names sounded Jewish. Yeah, it was like that. Idaho, you know.
The Motel 6 looked clean, the price was right, but it was spartan and you had to pay extra for crummmy Wi-Fi. Usually I prefer Hampton or Comfort Inn Suites. Next road trip I might try renting an RV so I can avoid the motel/hotel scene altogether. I’m damn sure done with AirBnB.
I live in Northern New England and venture out on the road seldom.
I’ve driven coast to coast four times, the first time at age 16. I’ve recently been to Philadelphia, NYC, and Orlando.
Let me tell you - it’s getting tough out on the road. My standards for a place to sleep have gone way up, and for good reason.
I had worked on Harvard buildings during my years as a union roofer out of local 33 . The impression I got was that the student body was immersed in surroundings of opulence and grandeur . The buildings and interiors were of the highest grade and maintained to the highest degree . This is easily done when you have endowments of obscene amounts from past students who have done well monetarily and the fact that the school itself pays very little if none on property taxes that “we” the unwashed must endure . To be coddled and sheltered the way these students are in the long run is a disservice to them in the long run . All the basics of life are handled by others leaving them inept when it comes to actually existing on your own two feet and wits and more importantly common sense which I believe can’t be taught in a classroom . Don’t get me wrong , I do not envy a Harvard student by any means I am entirely grateful with the great life God has given me and I totally enjoy the building trades that I to this day still generate decent money with . But the biggest difference I have from college students is that since I was small I never thought twice about just making the decision to up and move to a different part of America in my used car or truck with a little cash and my knowledge and a strong back . All the while taking any work that would get me the things I needed to progress , sometimes progress is not measured in money alone either...to summarize : I have met more dolts who have a college degree than laymen such as myself .

First and foremost, the problem is Harvard, not the heartland. These kids may think they are future leaders, but they can’t even begin to understand that an elite education is rapidly becoming irrelevant
Of the two, I imagine the students concluded the former.
In one regard, I fully understand why Mao hated ivory-tower intellectuals, mocked them, and made them objects of scorn during his Cultural Revolution.

I usually stay at Days Inn or someplace similar. Once, I was taking a road trip with my son, and we stopped at a very nice luxury resort. I didn’t think we would be able to afford it, but I asked if they had a military discount. The price they quoted was only $10 more than the nearby Days Inn. So that one night, we stayed in style.
It sounds like this professor has her head on straight. If only more journalists would spend time among the people, and lose that sense of smug superiority. The same goes for most politicians and performers.
Starts like one of the many “Conservatives In The Mist” articles we’ve seen in the past year or so, then we see that the observers are the ones being observed.
Trump spent a lot of time with contractors in his business life. They’re a pretty gritty, real bunch.

I was thinking that, too. The majority of them weren’t born with silver spoons in their mouths. I’m always surprised to see how easily and quickly they’ve dissed their roots — including the basic values of their own families.
She depends on seeing what is really 'going on' in small town USA, and understand why a map of the USA is bright red with spots of blue where there are demonRAT cities.
When I stayed at a Motel 6 about 2 years ago I was also told that wife I would be an extra charge. I believe it was about two and a half dollars per day. I said to the clerk that if I have to pay extra for something I can walk into a supermarket and get for nothing then I don’t think I’ll ever be coming back to a Motel 6 again. It didn’t take very long for him to say he would be happy to let me use wifi at no charge.
All you have to do is explain it does not pay to charge a customer a small fee and by doing so lose a customer for the future.
After reading the entire article, I hated the closing. It suggests the college students are equally misjudged as middle America.
In reality, the people these students met, are true where these snowflakes will parrot lefty propaganda for the rest of their lives.
The billionaire developer spent his life making sure he talked to the maids, janitors, construction people, and cooks, so he knew what was really going on, rather than depending on his accountants reports.
That’s how he got to BE a billionaire.
