The IG’s Report May Be Half-Baked
National Review ^ | 06-15-18 | Andrew C. McCarthy

Posted on 06/15/2018 9:22:08 PM PDT by Revel

You’ve got to hand it to Michael-Horowitz: The Justice Department inspector general’s much-anticipated report on the Clinton-emails investigation may be half-baked, but if it is, it is the most comprehensive, meticulously detailed, carefully documented, thoughtfully reasoned epic in the history of half-bakery.

Why say do I say the report “may be half-baked”? Why don’t I just come out and declare, “The report is half-baked”? Well, I figure if I write this column in the IG’s elusive style, we’ll have the Rosetta Stone we need to decipher the report.

See, you probably sense that I believe the report is half-baked. But-if I say it “may be” half-baked . . . well, technically that means it may not be, too. I mean, who really knows, right?

If that annoys you, try wading through 568 pages of this stuff, particularly on the central issue of the investigators’ anti-Trump bias. The report acknowledges that contempt for Trump was pervasive among several of the top FBI and DOJ officials making decisions about the investigation. So this deep-seated bias must have affected the decision-making, right? Well, the report concludes, who really knows?

Not in so many words, of course. The trick here is the premise the IG establishes from the start: It’s not my job to draw firm conclusions about why things happened the way they did. In fact, it’s not even my job to determine whether investigative decisions were right or wrong. The cop-out is that we are dealing here with “discretionary” calls; therefore, the IG rationalizes, the investigators must be given very broad latitude. Consequently, the IG says his job is not to determine whether any particular decision was correct; just whether, on some otherworldly scale of reasonableness, the decision was defensible. And he makes that determination by looking at every decision in isolation.

Andy seems to be finally coming around to finding that the DoJ is a hotbed of sedition. Beloved institution indeed.

“All of the Freepers who’ve been saying that NR is hopelessly compromised and hopelessly anti-Trump need to read this. Do those Freepers really think we’d be better off without Fox News and NR? “

Andrew McCarthy may be nailing it now, but this is what he thought when the only alternative was Hillary. This is the shit we had to put up with 2 years ago. Did he ever APOLOGIZE for this piece? Our side doesn’t win elections by TRASHING our own candidates, yet he was front-and-center, one of virtually everyone at National Review writing the same crap:

https://www.nationalreview.com/2016/07/donald-trump-republican-party-not-conservative/

This is from the piece:

“I will never be able to say I want him to win — only that I’m certain I want Hillary Clinton to lose.”

Real nice, except that by July, 2016, it was going to be either HILLARY or Trump (Primaries were over), and if Republicans did try to get cute and dump Trump off the ticket and replace him with Ryan (or anyone else), Hillary would have won by 30 points - which is the ONLY REASON the party did not get rid of Trump back then.

AGAIN - it was Hillary or Trump, and McCarthy was doing Hillary’s bidding, on National Review.

I don’t forgive that quickly...especially when no one bothers to apologize for being DEAD WRONG.

The McCabe caper a notable exception.

I posted on the other IG report thread -

I highly recommend to all - listen to Dan Bongino’s podcast from yesterday Friday - called The Aftermath. This report is not a nothingburger - his words. Follow up with Mark Lebin’s podcast from last night - 6/15. He puts the icing on the cake. The newly (Sept. 2017) appointed US attorney Jessie Liu whose jurisdiction is DC, can immediately bring charges and prosecute anyone mentioned in the report who might have committed crimes. She can even empanel a grand jury. Mark says she does not have to wait for Huber, who will only finish his report (when?) and give it to Sessions(when?) who will decide (when?) whether or not to appoint a special counsel. Jessie Liu can bring charges TODAY. I just read her Wikipedia page. Check it out. She was on Trumps transition team.

"..a principled Republican party that began in the Bush years."

There's an erroneous assumption right up front.

All of the Freepers who’ve been saying that NR is hopelessly compromised

National Review was "compromised" from the day William F. Buckley, Jr. "retired" from the CIA.

In my younger days I was fooled.

I am old and wise now.

They cannot be trusted.

What bothers me is that if we had the same number of FBI employees saying the same things about blacks as they did about Trump voters, Horowitz would have no problem deciding if there was “bias”, or if that bias “changed the investigation outcome”.

Post of the day--you nailed it.

“”..a principled Republican party that began in the Bush years.””

“There’s an erroneous assumption right up front. “

Wow, that one slipped right by me. What principles? To his credit, McCarthy is making up for what he did, but at the time, which was being part of the effort to enable a Hillary victory, is something that I want to see some SERIOUS contrition on.

Last week the Supreme Court ruled 5-4 that getting ride of dead people from the voter roles was acceptable. The ruling was 5-4, not 4-5, BECAUSE OF TRUMP. Soon will be the ruling on government labor unions...if we do win, it will only be BECAUSE OF TRUMP.

The direction of the courts, particularly, the Supreme Court was known by EVERYONE in the summer of 2016 - if Hillary won, it was GAME OVER, as far as our side ever winning a decision, probably for DECADES.

What was SO DIFFICULT to understand in this regard?

I just love Andy McCarthy. Ever since he brought down the blind sheik, he’s been one of my favorite teachers.

NR has had several Uniparty Never Trumpers.

Several bad apples doesn’t make the whole bag bad. I’m just not buying the bag.

I think I took the phrase out of context, but even in the Reagan days the GOP was not about principles, just the typical DC “Let’s divvy it up and get our share”.

“It’s a half baked report.”

Half baked in the sense that it threw out a few nuggets in order to give the illusion of completeness. The DOJ is full to the brim with Obama ghouls and the rot they generated is lying all over the floor in plain sight.

We have a deal maker as our president. Not ideologically pure, though much of what he’s done is very conservative. I have no doubt he’d trade DACA for the wall, etc. I get it, but he unlike the Bush’s will move us closer to our goal line.

There are many here that are willing to lose all the time to maintain their purity and “true conservative credentials”.

I’m hoping the original report will be leaked, as it was written, before the CYA crowd watered it down.

Half-Baked? Clever analysis. The whole exercise has been a waste of time for all. We expected something and got a 500+ page disappointment. Horrorwits is no fool, he is establishment, period. He will live to regret this whitewash, I hope.
