Ron Howard sparks political debate by asking Twitter 'When was America at its greatest?'
FOX News ^ | June 14, 2018

Ron Howard has one question on his mind, and it has nothing to with his latest film, “Solo: A Star Wars Story.”

“Honest question to #MAGA minders,” the 64-year-old tweeted Thursday. “When was America at its greatest? Can you tell me an era that reflects the ‘Again’ that you hope to return to?”

The Oscar-winning filmmaker and former “Happy Days” actor quickly started a conversation with users who had different opinions of President Trump’s famous slogan.

That seems to be reasonable—50s being best and then into the 60s. Something went wrong around that time, at least considering what came after, as far as morality goes. I was not even alive during that period...bummer.

Why that time frame in particular?

Curious question coming from a guy who made his name starring in a show rooted in 50’s nostalgia titled, “Happy Days.”

I was gonna say considering little Ronnie was in two shows that exhibited those things that I think many Americans would agree made America great, he either is ignorant or maybe, just maybe for once he is trying to spark an honest debate.................Nah!

It’s not a “WHEN”. It’s not a “YEAR”. It’s not a “DECADE”.

It’s about bringing back the “THINGS” that were great about America.

Various things at various times.

Like when kids played outside without fear. When kids rode bikes without farty helmets.

When you didn’t have to lock your doors.

When drugs didn’t infest our neighborhoods.

When just holding a girl’s hand was exciting enough.

When God and Jesus weren’t dirty words.

When nobody knew what LGBTQ was or cared.

When a person’s word was all the contract you needed.

When everyone knew right from wrong.

I’m sure you have many others I didn’t think of.

It’s a trick question. Different eras highlighted different virtues. I would say between the end of Jim Crow and the start of the welfare state for Negro citizens, but earlier times for some other citizens. Faith had a huge part in it. And it will have to have one for any future resurgence. Maybe the gay bee was the thing America needed in its bustle to finally get serious again. The devil can and will eat our lunch if allowed. “Put your hand in the hand of the Man Who stilled the waters....”

A rather transparent Alinsky trap. Whatever "time" someone picks thinking of something good, Ron Howard will pick something bad that happened at the same time and say "that's what YOU want!"

Thanks for showing your dark side, Howard.

And yet even those times were needful of improvement.

It stands as testimony that the glorification of God is needed, and that not in some mere external way.

Instead of just caviling at the “trap” we can point to various times and various virtues.

Bingo, 1969, first man in human in history walks on the moon and an American! I'd guess it was the decade of 60s even with the hippies and Vietnam.

By the time 1970 hit, it was all an incremental decline.

Excellent point.

It’s themes, not times, that are the answer to the question.

The 50’S, 60’S, even the 70’S were a hundred times better than this. Not my problem if Opie’s lost his memory.

Every era, in the USA's history, has had it's scandals, wars, corruption, depressions or serious recessions, people who were taken advantage of/oppressed, and other kinds of problems. OTOH, there were many times when we, as a people thrived, no matter what else was going on.

I've read this whole thread and while some people waxed nostalgic for certain ties, they all looked at those times through rose colored glasses and totally ignored the wars, "actions", strikes, inflation, depressions/recessions, etc. that were a very real part of those times.

The idiot Ron Howard, who because he was working throughout his childhood, got a lousy education. He's obviously also a stinking lefty, who couched that query in a way that it can't be answered without him and other lefties jumping all over it.

American was the world's powerhouse after WW II, mainly because our nation hadn't been bombed into rubble...our manufacturing facilities in tact, and the fact that we entered WW II at a much later date than the European nations had.

The same scenario was true after WW I; however, we were still being looked down upon, but almost ALL of Europe, as rubes and boobs.

OTOH...we, unlike most of the rest of the world, escaped the horrendous depression, thanks to Coolidge and his policies. We also escaped the crippling of strikes that hit England, as well as the disastrous punitive sanctions and monetary reparations that were heaped on Germany and her allies.

The 1950s through a lot of the early '60s, here, were filled with strikes, serious recessions, the Korean War, the Cuban Missile Crisis, the early days of Nam, stinking Commie infiltrations, the "FREE SPEECH MOVEMENT", that was led by Mario Savio, who was a forerunner of the damned Commies taking over the colleges and universities with SDS, etc.!

There's a whole LOT of factual history that I left out; however, even with all of the "bad" stuff I mentioned and the other bad stuff I left out...Making America Great Again has to do with taking the GOOD things from past times and bringing it back!
