Alice Marie Johnson to President Trump: 'I am going to make you proud'
CNN ^ | June 2018 | E. Greenberg, J. Lynch, N. Valencia

Posted on 06/09/2018 9:22:55 AM PDT by CondoleezzaProtege

Alice Marie Johnson's life changed on Wednesday -- and she has US President Donald Trump and Kim Kardashian West to thank.

And thank them she did as soon as she left an Alabama prison after 21 years behind bars.

"I feel like my life is starting over again," an emotional Johnson told reporters outside the prison in Aliceville.

Trump commuted the first-time nonviolent drug offender's life sentence on Wednesday, one week after Kardashian pleaded her case in an Oval Office meeting with the President.

"I am going to make you proud that you gave me this second chance in life. And I will not disappoint the American public or the world that has so much faith in me," Johnson told CNN.

"It means that someone finally saw me, someone finally heard me, someone had mercy on me -- and that was President Trump, and so I'm so thankful for him and what he's done."

“”””Johnson has said she did not sell drugs or make deals, though she did admit to acting as an intermediary for those involved, passing along messages. She was given life in prison without parole.””””””””””””

I have worked with, employed and known many drug dealers over the years. They all sound like that. I dint do nuffin.

You do not get life without parole for being a small player who just passes along the occasional message.

Yes and no. The truth is he received a much harsher sentence than most who refused to serve in the war. I don’t agree with him or his logic, but it does seem to me that compared to other white, middle class “conscientious objectors” who wouldn’t do government service (and got about 18 months), he was unfairly penalized.

Yes it is. I hope she has it in her to live up to her promises.

I hope she also understands that there are a lot of people hoping she fails and will enable her to do so if for no other reason than to make President Trump look foolish.

She needs be careful.

Well I'm certainly OK with big time opioid traffickers earning the death penalty.

I'm hesitant to condemn President Trump for this particular act of mercy.

Myself, I need God's mercy. I don't want God giving me what I deserve.

A single mother of five children, Johnson was arrested in 1993 and convicted in 1996 of eight federal criminal counts relating to her involvement in a Memphis, Tennessee-based cocaine trafficking organization.[4] In addition to drug conspiracy counts, Baker was convicted of money laundering and structuring, the latter crime because of her purchase of a house with a down payment structured to avoid hitting a $10,000 reporting threshold.[4] The Memphis operation involved over a dozen individuals.[5] The indictment described Johnson as the head of the multi-million dollar cocaine ring, and detailed dozens of drug transactions and deliveries.[3] Evidence presented at trial showed that the Memphis operation was connected to Colombian drug dealers based in Texas.[6] Johnson was sentenced to life imprisonment in 1997. At the sentencing hearing, U.S. District Judge Julia Gibbons said that Johnson was “the quintessential entrepreneur” in an operation that dealt in 2,000 to 3,000 kilograms of cocaine, with a “very significant” impact on the community.[6] Co-defendants Curtis McDonald and Jerlean McNeil were sentenced to life and 19 years in federal prison, respectively.[6] A number of other co-defendants who testified against Johnson received sentences of between probation and 10 years.[4]

But how do you know that they will be non recidivist?

It’s a gamble, and were gambling with the lives of my family.

Just as judges sit as courts of equity as well as courts of law, the Presidential pardon can be used in the same way. Obviously few pardons will please everyone, but it is the President’s prerogative.

We’ll see
This “ first time nonviolent drug offender” was part of a cartel that trafficked 2-3 TONS of cocaine through Tennessee
Everyone wants to act like Granny just sat in a hotel room answering phones
She was a merchant of death and people died from the product she made money selling
So much so that the obama DOJ - which pardoned dozens of cocaine dealers - turned down this sweet old black woman 3 times
Not feeling the joy here, thinking of those who lost their kids and other loved ones
So,lets see what Alice does that may be comforting to them
Nonviolent crime

Do you have any first hand experience?

Or are you satisfied with relying on what others tell you?

Can’t you find out why she was sentenced to life without parole? She says “I dint do nuffin” and that is good enough for you?

Nobody gets sentenced to life without parole for being a bit player.

I didn’t make a claim about her innocence. I simply wished her well. Why you’re demanding that I prove you right is a mystery to me. Have a good day.
