Can not have SPECIAL DEALS for special interests. That is fertilizer for growing corruption.

Do not try to protect any particular industry. Let free and fair competition prevail. Here in USA, we do have high wages, but we also have advantages, such as abundant energy, abundant minerals, educated and motivated workers and LARGE INTERNAL MARKETS. We can compete world wide, not for all products, but many products.

Let Bangladesh make clothes, China make shoes & purses, India make motorcycles, Canada can produce lumber. Fine, we can produce many other products. It is bad policy to try and protect everybody. Only defense & security related industries need to be protected. Rest are free to compete.

But all trade must be fair. China & Japan can not make it difficult for us to export cars into their country. China can not keep stealing out technology. Like Trump said today, either we make fair trade deals or no trade at all

Bret Baier at FAKE Faux news .....pathetic

“I think what these other countries find so baffling...[President Donald J. Trump] is setting up a situation in which the only way they can give him what he wants at the end is to be humiliated by him.”

The “Special Report” panel discusses tensions at the G7 summit amid President Donald Trump’s tough new tariffs. https://fxn.ws/2JFoYDH

Since youtube can do CC, why don't they put together a transcript so we can skim it if we don't have time to watch a nearly half-hour video? It would free up some bandwidth for them.

We’re not talking about “special deals for special interests” here. Any government with half a brain will go to heroic lengths to protect his country’s agricultural base. This is so fundamental that it shouldn’t even be argued. Protecting your food supply is more important than protecting your domestic steel and aluminum industries, isn’t it?

Bret Baier and his komrades grew up on the mulch fed to them by career politicians. Can you think of a single president since Eisenhower who was not in politics for decades?

United States has absolutely nothing to fear about losing food supply. We have better weather than Canada, more agricultural land than India and China, better irrigation and rivers than any major country, and we build the best automated farm machinery in the world.

The only thing American farmers have to worry about import taxes, tariffs and restrictions in FOREIGN countries.

I would also free up my time. I can read the transcript of a half hour speech in about five minutes. I love to read and hate wasting my time watching a video knowing I could have read the entire thing in a fraction of the time. That is why I rarely watch a Youtube link.

The biggest threat to our food supply is low commodity prices. All the arable land, water and mechanized farming in the world doesn't do any good if farming is not a profitable business.

We deal with this problem by subsidizing our agricultural sector and imposing stupid mandates to inflate domestic prices (see ethanol as a perfect example of this). These measures would be outlawed under any "free trade" agreement that included ag products.

I think you missed my principle point. USA agriculture is impossible to out-compete by anyone except for some unique crops such as sugarcane in Brazil or coffee in Columbia.

Overall, if world food markets are opened up on a FAIR and EQUAL tariff basis, American farmers will become the richest farmers in the world. Currently there are so many tariffs and outright bans in other countries for American crops, that is what hurts American farmers. If world markets are available to American farmers, there is zero danger of food price collapse in USA.

As an addendum to my post, please look up the TARIFFS which CURRENTLY EXIST in Canada for USA Agricultural products. As high as 270% tariffs on some items. That is what is killing American farmers, due to lack of export markets.
