Trump says he is likely to support ending federal ban on marijuana
The Los Angeles Times ^ | June 8th, 2018 | By Evan Halper

President Trump said he likely will support a congressional effort to end the federal ban on marijuana, a major step that would reshape the pot industry and end the threat of a Justice Department crackdown.

Trump’s remarks put him sharply at odds with Atty. Gen. Jeff Sessions on the issue. The bill in question, pushed by a bipartisan coalition, would allow states to go forward with legalization unencumbered by threats of federal prosecution.

Trump made his comments to a gaggle of reporters Friday morning just before he boarded a helicopter on his way to the G-7 summit in Canada. His remarks came the day after the bipartisan group of lawmakers proposed their measure.

One of the lead sponsors is Sen. Cory Gardner (R-Colo.), who is aligned with Trump on several issues but recently has tangled with the administration over the Justice Department’s threatened crackdowns on marijuana.

“I support Sen. Gardner,” Trump said when asked about the bill. “I know exactly what he’s doing. We’re looking at it. But I probably will end up supporting that, yes.”

“They both started with weed.”

I would bet $100 they actually started with Budweiser.

With all due respect, you're wasting your breath on dope forums. FR has attracted addicts of all types and they don't care about facts. They just want their dope.

Mostly libertarian trash wanting vending machine opiates and cocaine. That, and open borders, women's right to murder the unborn, etc.

And some moron on this thread says legal dope has not harmed Colorado? What an idiot. Go to Durango and say that. Scumbag addicts everywhere.

someone impaired can get behind the wheel and do it.

Ditto for alcohol - should that drug not be legal?

And what makes pot a big problem is that there’s no scientific consensus on a base blood level of THC that can prove impairment.

States are free to pass zero-BAC-THC-tolerance laws.

” no scientific consensus on a base blood level of THC that can prove impairment”

A legitimate issue IMHO.

Yes, they vote. You can spot them driving to the wrong polling station at ten miles per hour under the speed limit with a bag of tortilla chips between their legs. The boozers are the ones running red lights, and doing fifty through school zones.

"That's the point of most prohibitions, to enrich the government and organized criminals (lots of overlap). "The prohibition industry.""

and just how long will it take for big business to control all the weed?...

just how many car manufacturers do we have in this huge country of ours?...

and how many companies control most of the beer production and sales in this country?

look at Monsanto....

this is a win/win for the oligarchy...

its another nail in the coffin to our horribly undisciplined and lazy and immoral society...

I look at the big picture but so many just want to get a quick high...

As for the rest, mind your own damn business.

I see the same thing. I understand all the reasons to legalize it. But its certainly not something to celebrate. There are going to be real human consequences, which we know, because I see it already. With the advent of “medical” marijuana it just ramped up and invaded families it would not have touched before.

You can’t build a republic with potheads as your citizenry. Kids who start down this road, if they don’t snap out of it, are as you say, lost souls. They lose their spark; they never quite get off dead-center. This is what I see all around me.

“now we are a nation of sloths... “

It must be liquor and pills that did that.

So pot, cars, and beer should be illegal?

“Mostly libertarian trash wanting vending machine opiates and cocaine. That, and open borders, women’s right to murder the unborn, etc.”

You cannot cite a single example of that.

You’re just upset because you cannot use government to compel the behavior you want everyone to comply with...and it eats at you.

And it shows.

No good will come from legalizing pot but it seems unstoppable at this point. Maybe a lot of rats and snowflakes will be stoned and forget to vote.

Prohibition has had worse human consequences - which is why we should applaud its end (while reflecting that perfection is not to be had this side of Heaven).

I agree with that in principle but the timing is idiotic. The biggest problem here is that ObamaCare is still the law of the land. Legalizing narcotics alone may be perfectly legitimate from a constitutional standpoint, but doing it while insurers are still required under Federal law to cover drug treatment for their insured is preposterous.

How so? We criminalized marijuana before.
Right or wrong, we can do it again.

No good will come from legalizing pot

We'll get the same goods we got from legalizing the addictive mind-altering drug alcohol - chiefly, less money in criminal hands.

The problem will be the unemployable users, who is going to pay for them, are we just going to let them starve?
